Our client is an arts organization that holds classes and events. We’re redesigning/developing their site in WordPress with Event Espresso 4. Their list of customizations has been large but we’ve been able to accommodate most. One that’s eluding us is how we can provide them with the desired method for users to be able to “search” by medium (i.e. photography, watercolor, etc.) which is using the EE4 categories.

One possibility that they mocked up was including a button menu that could be deployed at the top of landing pages (http://67.222.156.193/~grand/adult-classes/#). Another and their preference is to be able to have a drop down or menu or search by category that would appear as a sidebar widget on their class/instructor pages (http://67.222.156.193/~grand/people/andy-ness/)

Hi Nathan,

We received your request for priority support.

I’m afraid that we do not generally get involved with website customizations, but we might be able to point you in a general direction. Did you have a specific question that we could help you with?

We’ve worked out a way to address this with menus/widgets and links that pulls category data from the EE database (http://67.222.156.193/~grand/events/ceramic-mugs/) Ultimately looking for a more dynamic solution, restricted search strings by category and ability to integrate shortcodes.

Closing this topic out and you can close support request. We were able to figure out a way to program around the needs. Fine line between custom development and access into the EE4 codebase. Thanks.

You’ll probably need to team up with a PHP developer to build a more dynamic solution. Here’s an example that I put together that shows how to add a category filter into a widget that may get you started in the direction you’re looking to go:

Perfect… thanks for the github example. We’ve got the php resources, just trying to understand what’s possible in terms of integration with the data.
