Since the last update we installed, we are no longer able to use the search function on the events and registrations pages. For example, searching for a persons registration in the “registrations” tab used to be really simple – we could simply enter a first name, and all registrations done for that person would show up. Now, we are unable to search this way. Same with the transaction tab. This feature was super useful for us, as we are always referencing specific transactions and registrations for our clients, and scrolling through the master list is time-consuming and at times frustrating. Will this function be restored? |
Hi Allyne, We haven’t removed the search. It should still be working: What currently happens if you search for a part of a name? — |
No matter what I search for it always return no results. |

Here is the correct image. (sorry!) |
Hi, do you see the same results when only Event Espresso is running? Other than updating to the current version, have there been any other changes to the site? — |
I went though and deactivated our other plug-ins (we don’t have many) and I still have the same result. I haven’t changed anything else to the site except adding more events and ongoing registrations. The search function stopped working after I did that latest upgrade to EE. |
Hi, do you remember the version number that you were previously using? We can provide a copy to see if that corrects the issue. — |
no, but I have been makeing sure to upgrade pretty regularly. So I believe it would be the version just before this one (we are currently using 4.8.14) |
Okay, could you try downloading this version to your computer? https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/archive/4.8.9.p-sans-tests-tag.zip Next, deactivate the current version of Event Espresso 4. Then from the WP plugins screen upload and activate the version above and test the search again. Does it then work? We have a series of testing sites internally and then other sites across different web hosts. I have not been able to duplicate this issue yet but if we have missed something then we want to get it fixed. Thanks — |

That worked. The registrations search function is working now. Should I not update again until I hear from you? |
I’ll notify our development team so we can take a look at this. Who is your web host? — |
Bluehost |
Actually, I have one more request. We introduced an enhancement in 4.8.10 for searching first and last name at the same time: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/#4.8.10 Could you let us know if this version works? https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/archive/4.8.11.p-sans-tests-tag.zip Also, please let us know who your hosting provider is. Thanks — |
Nope, that version doesn’t work. I tried searching for the whole name as well as parts. I also searched for dates too. Bluehost is our provider |
Let me know if you need access to poke around my site to see whats going on. |
Hi Allyne, If you could send temporary login details I’ll take a look at this, please use this form: https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/ If you could include FTP details I’d like to enable WP_DEBUG and check the error log. |

Just checking in to see how this is going? |
Hi, we tracked down the cause and it appears to be a limitation with the number of joins that are allowed for your database. Versions that are newer than 4.8.9 support searching for a registration by transaction ID and this appears to be hitting the limit. We replied via email with more information that you can provide to your web host. — |
