It turns out the cryptic number you mentioned is actually the reg code, and the reg code is displayed on the next line after the attendee name in the Name column of the registration table.
What I can do is put in a ticket for a future update where it will send the event name to the gateway regardless of whether or not a promotion code is used. Thanks for the feedback.
