I noticed last week that wordpress was slower than usual and I called our webhost earlier to see what the issue was. After disabling all plugins, I discovered it was EE4. It makes loading pages in wordpress unbearable if they do load, but most often they simply break and give me a 503 error. I’m desperately trying to get an event up and going and really don’t want to switch to somewhere else.
I even deleted the plugin and reinstalled, still slow. Are there any ways to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue?
Usually the fix for this is you run a repair script on the database. This is because Event Espresso is trying to read or write from the database, but the database needs repair so it’s really slow.
I went into PHPAdmin and repaired all the database tables but most of the EE ones came back with error: “The storage engine for the table doesn’t support
repair”
Hi Missy, I had the same experience with slow speeds when I updated to the latest version a couple of weeks ago. My issue was that I had all logging turned on which was causing the issue. I turned off all logging for my live site in the EE settings and the speeds were back to normal.
That’s expected if those tables use the InnoDB storage engine. The table that usually can slow things down is the wp_options table and if that one got repaired then should should see the site loading more quickly now.
I’ve tried all these options. Updating, repairing all the tables. I even had GoDaddy try to help repair / optimize everything and still nothing. Crawls and breaks. One tech support at GoDaddy said a similar problem was solved by moving from GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress Hosting to CPanel hosting. We are planning on doing this to see, but are there any other options I may be missing?
If you’re going to move to another host, you can do much better than GoDaddy. In fact, it’s noted on the Event Espresso’s requirements page that GoDaddy hosting isn’t recommended:
