Hi,

I have EE4 live on our current server and we are in the process of changing servers along with integrating a new template from templatic. I did install EE4 on the new development site and tried to create an event. Somehow, when I click on View link, it says that the URL does not exist. Similarly, when I am using the Shortcode on the template pages to show the tickets (which we are doing on currently live site), tickets are not showing up.

Can you please help?

Hi there,

Did you migrate the Database correctly? Along with that, can you go to WP > Permalinks and set the permalinks settings on the dev site to be the same as your live site?

Hey Josh, I am not importing the database. I have few events which I will recreate all over again.

As for the permalink, it’s exactly the same as the live site – except that the live has https protocol and dev has http.

Can that be the problem?

It could be if you’re trying to open an https link on a server that doesn’t have an SSL server.

Another think to check is if the templatic theme is causing an issue. You can check this by switching to another theme.

Hey Josh, I checked that I am not trying to recall a https link on a server which does not have SSL. So this can not be the reason.

I also changed the template to WP default twenty fourteen and still getting the same result – the EE event page link is giving me a 404.

Please advice.

Hi there,

Are you using the current version of Event Espresso 4 (4.4.7), and when you go to add an event and view it, is the event published and does it have an Upcoming status?

Hey Josh, I am using 4.1

As for the event, when I publish the event, it is showing Upcoming but clicking on ‘View Event’ is giving a 404.

Moreoever, I tried using the shortcode on a page and it worked just fine. It is not showing on an event page.

Hi,

I would recommend updating to 4.4.7 just to rule out any old bugs.

After that I would head to Settings > Permalinks and hit save just to “flush” the permalinks, as it really does look like a permalink issue.

Also, one possibility, do you have any plugins/theme features (except EE) that add a custom post type called events?

Hi Dean,

First of all, I am unable to update to EE4 V 4.4.7. I am getting following error:

“An error occurred while updating Event Espresso: Update package not available.”

Second of all, I do have a theme feature that add a custom post type called ‘event’.

But again, my current theme on my current site also creates a custom post type ‘event’ and your shortcakes work just fine with it.

Hi Sampurn, if I read your last message correctly, then your theme has already reserved the “events” slug. Event Espresso won’t be able to use it if its already in use. Try changing it to something else using the sample code in this tutorial:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/change-events-cpt-slug/

Then refresh your permalinks and your events should appear as expected.

The update is likely not working since your support license key is already activated on an existing site. I’ve just released it so you can use it on your new site.

Hey Lorenzo,

The theme has reserved the slug ‘event’, not ‘events’ which EE uses. In fact, my current theme (which is working fine) also uses the slug ‘event’ and it does not conflict with your slug which is ‘events’.

Hi Sampurn,

Can you try setting the second development site to use the WordPress Default permalink settings and check to see if the events load up with the default permalinks?

Nope, it is not working even with WP default permalink. I also changed the EE slug from Events to Tickets using the method Lorenzo suggested but it is still the same.

Hi there,

I think the way forward will be to find the difference between your live server where this is working and your new server where it’s not. I’d start with looking through the PHP error logs.
