EE4 not designed for recurring training classes!

Having used EE4 for over a year now, I realise that the plugin is not really set up for training courses unless it is a one-time event. It is common for a training course to run over a fixed term of several weeks occurring perhaps one day a week. EE4 has tried to make up for many of its deficiencies at core by providing expensive add-ons. However, even the simplest booking systems provide more options at the DateTime stage. Apart from having a Start and End Date, usually you can choose just a Start Date, which day(s) a class occurs, and how many weeks it continues for etc. I have some screenshots of what I mean from a system I used prior to EE4, if you tell me how to upload them. I’d really like your feedback as you do have a superb support function in place.

Hi there,

They’re actually planning the recurring events add-on and you are invited to leave your feedback on its Trello card:

You can include links to screenshots in your comments there by following this guide:

Hi Josh,
Thanks for getting back so soon. That’s why I said EE has great support!
Another add-on? This should really be a core function update.
Anyway, I have put the screenshots up on a temporary page on my test site. You can see them here:

Also, I have recently added WP User Integration add-on and it seems that a “hide option” has been requested some time ago so that only those with set capability can see those ticket options. At least since September 2015. That’s more than 2 years ago! That’s what I thought the add-on was going to deliver so am a bit disappointed.

Regards
Toni

This should really be a core function update.

The reasons that recurring events will not be a core function include and are not limited to:
1) The need to keep core lean
2) Those that do one or only a few events each year do not want the added UI of a recurring events manager
3) Making recurring events an add-on allows core to be more flexible to accommodate other types of events that are not recurring

I have recently added WP User Integration add-on and it seems that a “hide option” has been requested some time ago so that only those with set capability can see those ticket options.

You can add the following code to your website so that only those with set capability can see those ticket options:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/wp-user-integration/#hide_restricted_ticket_message

You can add the above to a functions plugin or into your WordPress theme’s functions.php file.

They could have easily added a dozen or so similar options for how to customize the “is available to members only” message. Instead of adding some more options they kept the admin UI simple to use and made the message customizable via a filter hook. See also: https://wordpress.org/about/philosophy/

You’re absolutely right, Josh. That’s why I’m renewing my site with a basic theme from the ground up to avoid excess baggage provided by original theme.
The snippet works a treat, too!
Hope your add-on arrives soon! Guess just concerned that so many add-ons are making it quite expensive and going for the Everything License is not realistic for us at this time.
