We are new users as of Dec. and are rolling out EE3 to the entire organization shortly. Once EE4 is out of beta do you plan to have a “one-click” upgrade or a migration script of some sort available?

We thought of waiting to roll out until EE4 is a little more mature so we don’t have to train staff twice and migrate data, however it seems like it may be awhile until all the features we need are released and stable.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Thanks,
Kimberly

Hi Kimberly,

Event Espresso 4 will migrate data from Event Espresso 3 at this time. However you can’t have both plugins running at the same time. EE3 needs to be deactivated before you can activate EE4.

When you activate EE4, you’ll be prompted to migrate the existing data from EE3 or start fresh.

To expand upon this — there is a forward movement towards Event Espresso 4. Once that is out of beta, then we will begin to discontinue version 3 (no new features but we will still fix bugs).

Hi Lorenzo,

Hmmmm… do you think it would be better to go ahead and move over now then so we aren’t training people twice in a short span of time? We aren’t using all the bells and whistles just yet. Mostly the basics to process class registrations with paypal IPN for payment processing. Eventually we will use ticketing etc. So maybe EE4 would be fine for us. Let me know your thoughts.

Oh and is there a step by step tutorial for migrating that you can point me to?

Thanks,
Kimberly

Hello,

The steps are the same as reinstalling a WordPress plugin. Begin by backing up your WordPress:

https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

Next, download the latest version of your Event Espresso 4 software from your account:

https://eventespresso.com/users/krazekimmy/

Now login to your WordPress admin and go to Plugins. Locate Event Espresso 3 in the list of plugins and deactivate it along with any addons.

Return to the Plugins screen and click on Add New –> Upload. Then browse to the zip file that you downloaded from your account. Select it and begin the upload process. You can activate Event Espresso after it has finished.

Keep in mind that the calendar addon is available for Event Espresso 4. The other addons are not currently available so if you need them, then I would hold off updating.

Thanks you again Lorenzo!

So, if I install EE4 and play around with it and decide that we should stay with EE3 can I just deactivate EE4 and reactivate EE3 with no issues?

Sure, you can follow these steps:

https://eventespresso.com/topic/using-waiting-list-in-ee4/#post-92597

Also, you can’t migrate data from EE4 back to EE3. For example, if you accept a handful of registrations in EE4 and then decide, you want to go back to EE3, then you would need to manually enter these registrations.

If you aren’t sure about migrating, then I would wait and setup a free demo site here:
