First, it could be that your permalinks need flushing, you can do this by navigating to:
Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.
Don’t make any changes and just save the settings.
Now recheck your /events/ endpoint, does it display the events?
If not do you have anything other plugins that deal with events? Something else may be conflicting with the /events/ endpoint so its now showing EE events.
You can test that by going to:
Event Espresso -> Events -> Teamplates.
In those settings you’ll find the ‘Event slug’ option.
Change that to ‘ee-events’ and save.
Now once again you’ll need to flush your permalinks with the steps above.
That’s odd, EE doesn’t create an events ‘page’ as such.
The /events/ output is an archive of events, your page may have the slug ‘events’ but WordPress will ignore it and output the post archive (which it is doing right now on your site).
So I’m not entirely sure why having a page with the events slug helped for you here, but I’m glad your up and running again.
