Just wondering… I DL’d the new Beta version and then tried to activate the calendar plugin, I received a did not activate to prevent a fatal error. I installed the beta version of calendar which completely broke my site. It’s fine, I fixed it, but was wondering if the 4.3 beta was designed to work with the recent version of calendar? Laran |

Hi, Generally the Beta versions of EE4 from the Pre Release channel will only work with the beta version of the calendar from the Pre Release channel (it might work with the main release but there’s no guarantee). I checked these together and it does seem like there is a problem. I will get this raised for a developer to look into. Thanks for bringing it to our attention! |

Dean, I was mistaken when I stated my site was fine. I can us EE4 fine but the minute I try to activate the current version of the calendar plugin, my site goes blank with this in the URL http://dftofco.com/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s= I have tried restoring the file from my backup (which I did just before activated the PR version). I get some errors there. So far I have been unable to restore and reactivate any version of the calendar. |

Hi, Have you tried reverting to the standard release versions (EE 4.2.9 and Calendar 3.0)? |
|
Yes, All I have on my server now is EE4 4.2.9, If I try to add Calendar 3.0, it breaks the site as soon as I try to activate it. |
When you created a backup of the site, did you also backup the database? The config for the Calendar has changed in the Beta Add-on which is updated when activated, however switching back should not cause a fatal error. Is there an error shown when you activate Cal v3 currently? if so can you that error message please. |
|
|
I did a complete backup which included the DB. There is no error when I activate, just blank screen. I can use the back arrow and get back to the plugin screen but if I try to click on anything anywhere in the site, it gives me white screen. when I first installed the beta version and tried to activate Calendar 3.0, it did receive an message which stated it didn’t activate in order to prevent a fatal error. |
|
I just rolled back the database, activated 4.2.9 and then uploaded Calendar 3.0. Same problem. I opened firebug to see if any code showed up… it’s completely blank. Nothing is loading after I click activate on the Calendar plugin. the only way to fix is to login to my host and delete the file. As soon as I do, my site is fine. |
Is it possible for you to send me temporary log-in details? If so could you please send via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/ I’d like to take a look at this. FTP details are appreciated so I can activate the plugin and de-activate via FTP. |

Sent. The site is in maintenance mode so no worries. |
To explain what is happening, 4.2.x stores its config within the database within a certain format. With 4.3.x required a change to this config. So activating 4.3.0 on the site altered the config, now 4.2.9 (and the Calendar) is receiving a config it does not expect and does not know what to do with it. The error being thrown by the Calendar is: Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in /wp-content/plugins/ee4-events-calendar/EE_Calendar.php on line 195 Which should only be thrown in the situation outlined above, so are you 100% sure the database backup you have restored to was from before 4.3.0 was activated on the site? |

Tony, Thanks. I backed it up before I activated 4.3 but not before I installed it. I have a version that goes farther back, should I try that? I will lose some registrations but I don’t think that will be major. What I don’t want to do is lose the developer work that has been done over the past two weeks. Laran |
Apologies for the delay we’ve been investigating this issue. Rather than force you to revert back to a previous backup I’d like to get you up and running on 4.3.0 I believe we have found the issue and would like to try installing the latest 4.3.0 on your site, I just wanted to check that was ok with yourself beforehand? |
|
|
Absolutely! |
Can you test the site now an see if all works as expected please? |
|

Everything appears to be working. I can’t thank you guys enough. Note to self… do ignore suggestions about beta versions. π |
|
That is DO NOT ignore |
Great π Just to note, the version you are running is still a Beta version. It is the latest beta but there are some small changes to be made and tested before this is considered stable. Beta versions are intended for users that can monitor the activity of their site and notice if any issues/bugs pop up. So when we release the official update you’ll want to remove all the instances of Event Espresso you currently have, update to the general version and all should be well. Anyway, glad we could help π just let us know if you run into any other issues. |

I currently have ee 4.3.0.beta.024 and am having the same problem with trying to activate the latest beta version of the calendar. Is there another version that you loaded on Defensive’s site? WordPress Version: 3.9.1 |
Hi Byron, When you load the beta versions of Event Espresso and its calendar, you’ll need to make sure that the older version of the calendar is removed from the site (this means deactivated and deleted.) |

Thanks for the quick reply! That took care of the problem. |
