We are upgrading our PayPal account to ‘pro’ in the expectation that this will remove the PayPal ‘feature’ of removing credit card payment as a choice for recurring clients who do not clear their cookies. My question is – as this is the only thing that we are currently hoping to get from ‘pro’ and I would assume that it has nothing whatever to do with EE, is there actually any need to activate the ‘PayPal payment pro’ gateway on EE? If MUST activate Pro, as current users of the standard Paypal payment settings do we have to do anything in particular that is different? Would we need to deactivate the standard Paypal IPN? Hello, I do not understand this statement:
Could you please rephrase it? In terms of PayPal Pro affecting Event Espresso 3, that will provide you with the ability to accept bank cards on your site using the following credentials: PayPal API Username If you are currently accepting bank cards through PayPal Standard, then you’ll notice that the registrant is temporarily taken off-site to PayPal.com to complete their transaction. PayPal Standard which uses the IPN will be unaffected and you could use both at the same time to offer flexibility in terms of payment options. — |

Thanks for the info Lorenzo To clarify: A customer visiting a merchant with a standard PayPal account more than a certain number of times will at some point no longer be offered the option to pay by credit card. This behaviour is explained in more detail in a post on the paypal forums. Clearing the cookies set by the merchant site will re-activate card payment options. Undesirable behaviour at the best of times! It may be that we have to use the Pro approach and take payment on our own site to overcome this restriction – I don’t know at this stage… |
Thanks for sharing. I do know that PayPal encourages signs up during a purchase so you may be referring to guest checkout: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/WAX_landing-outside PayPal Pro is an onsite payment processor whereas PayPal Standard is offsite. Unfortunately, I can’t confirm if upgrading to a pro account will always allow guest checkout via PayPal Standard but it will offer you the ability to accept bank cards directly on your site. — |
