When I went to update the EE3 plugin on WordPress, it froze in maintainence mode and the fix for that got my website running again, but my event espresso plugin is completely gone from the backend (not just deactivated). I am checking in the FTP of my site and I don’t think I lost my data (I REALLY HOPE NOT) but even when I redownload and activate the EE3 plugin it won’t point to any of my information.

Hi there,
Can you let me know which fix you are referring to, please?
That can happen if a WP update fails, when WP updates a plugin it deletes the original plugin, downloads the latest zip file and then extracts the contents into the plugins directory. If an issue is thrown during that call the plugin may have been removed but then not replaced.
What are you checking with FTP? All of your event data is stored within the database so a failed update would normally nor lose your data.
Which version number of Event Espresso are you activating? |

Hi there, Your data is actually stored within the database within their own tables alongside the other tables that have WordPress posts, pages, and options. After an event has happened its status changes, and Event Espresso 3 does not by default display past events. You can view the past events by changing the status filter. Here’s a screenshot that outlines the select box and button that changes the view to display past events. |

Hi Josh, We’ve found the data tables but now that we’ve reinstalled the EE3 plugin it’s like we’re starting all over again. We’ve looked at importing the existing information via CSV like the templates that are in the Event Overview – however we haven’t been able to find a table that looks the same… I think this is because we were somehow previously running EE4 even though when we renewed we got EE3? (I am not entirely clear on what happened in this process as I wasn’t around at the time) We’re at the point where we’re trying to figure out if it’s faster to just re-enter any events for the remainder of the year, and still export the data tables so we know numbers from the past year, or if it’s worth continuing to try to find something resembling an event overview table. |
Ok, let’s stop and find out which version you had before the update. Do the pages where you save settings, create events etc look very different than before? The event overview in EE3 is very different to EE4.
EE3 licenses also give you access to EE4, this is because eventually, we want all users to move over to EE4. Giving access to both allows you to move over when ready. However, auto updates will only update the current version (EE3 only updates to the latest version of EE3, EE4 only updates to the latest version of EE4). You have access to the database, correct? If you take a look at the tables, do you see Do you have a database backup currently? If not I’d recommend creating one now before moving forward, just to be safe. |

So we should be able to reinstall EE4 then, even with the EE3 license? We were using EE4 plug in before this issue, I can tell because EE3 looks so different. |

I am trying to install the EE4 plug in but it fails because destination folder …wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/ already exists. |
Yes, the license key doesn’t affect the functionality of EE, it provides one click updates and support.
Ok, so that confirms you were on EE4 when the update failed. The First make sure you’ve de-activated all version of Event Espresso through the dashboard. Dashboard -> plugins. De-activate EE3/EE4 if active. Using FTP go Then go back to the dashboard and install Event Espresso 4 through Plugins -> Add new -> Upload plugin. You can download the latest version of EE4 from your account page. Then activate EE4, if anything other than the welcome screen shows after activating, take a screenshot and add it here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-checklist/#screenshots |

Reinstalling the plugin appears to have solved the issue. |
Great, I’m glad it’s now working. Any further problems please let us know. |
