Hello

I’ve been reading and looking at the documentation for both EE3 & EE4 plugins. I am not sure which one is the right for my project. These are some of my requirements:

1) Attendees should have access to the events they have registered as well as the possibility to edit their information, check status (approved, payed, etc), cancel and request refund.

2) We would like the Venues to be able to publish their own events and see attendees but they won’t be able to manage the registrations (payments, cancellations, etc)

3) Venue information (address and map) should be visible only to registered attendees to the event. This information should also be sent in the confirmation email once the payment is processed.

4) Means to have separate listings for upcoming and past events. We would edit past events to add video, galleries and more info.

I currently have Event Espresso Decaf installed and have tested some of the features. I see several of my requirements are not met with this version.

I would appreciate your advise

Thanks,

Cecilia M

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in Event Espresso.

From your overview I believe that currently EE3 would be more suitable for your needs, but may not meet your exact needs still.

1) With the WP User integration addon, users that are logged into the site will have their registrations recorded and they can view a list of them, their status and cancel them. Refunds are NOT handled by Event Espresso and will need to be resolved via your payment provider.

2) This can be accomplished via the Roles and Permissions Basic and Pro addons (Pro is what you need, but Pro requires Basic to function). However, they will be able to manage registrations for their own events.

3) The email part is fine, but having content only visible to registered attendees is not possible by default and would require some custom coding to achieve.

4) Kind of possible, you can have a list of just upcoming events (the default list) or you can allow expired events to be shown alongside the upcoming ones. These can be added to separate pages via shortcodes. Unfortunately we do not have a shortcode to just show expired events.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks Dean for your response. Here are some more questions:

1) Let’s say I buy a EE3 Business License which includes both the add ons you mention. I see you will continue to have support for EE3 for some time, but what will happen when you stop? Will I be forced to upgrade to EE4? Will EE4 eventually support all the add ons? Will the users, events and other data migrate flawlessly to EE4? I see EE4 has a different price scheme, will there be discounts for EE3 users in order to upgrade?

2) I understand you will stop EE3 development in order to concentrate your efforts on the new version, but, will you make updates in order for EE3 to be compliant with WordPress updates?

3) If I make manual changes to the code, for example, to hide some content from certain users, will the updates erase those changes?

Looking forward to your comments

Thanks again

Cecilia M

Never mind question 3, I see Custom Files Add-on can cover it.

Thanks

Hi Cecilia,

Please see my answers below.

As you stated, we will continue to provide support for EE3 until the comparable features/add-ons have been migrated. Then we will have an end of life for EE3. At this point, customers will need to migrate to EE4 in order to stay up-to-date. At the EE3 end of life, we will no longer support or update EE3. However, until then, we will continue to keep EE3 updated to remain compatible with WordPress. EE3 end of life is still in the distant future.

Yes, the EE3 data is easily migrated to EE4 with a few clicks in your WordPress dashboard. So, there should be no worries about losing your data.

All active EE3 customers will continue to have access to EE4, therefore you won’t need discounts, because it is already included in your EE3 license package.

2) I understand you will stop EE3 development in order to concentrate your efforts on the new version, but, will you make updates in order for EE3 to be compliant with WordPress updates?

At the EE3 end of life, we will no longer support or update EE3. Until then, we will continue to keep EE3 updated to remain compatible with WordPress. EE3 end of life is still in the distant future.
