EE3 lost venue assignments for users when upgrading to 3.1.37

We are running on WPEngine. We have about 100 “store administrators” who manage events using EE3 for 100 stores around the US. Each store admin is assigned one specific EE “venue” and we have EE venues for each physical store. When they log into WP, they see only the EE events for their venue. This has been working great for a couple of years.

We yesterday upgraded EE3 from revision “3.1.28.P” to “3.1.37.P” by copying the EE plugins into the site (in maintenance mode and after extensive development and testing on a staging server where everything worked fine on a fresh-staged copy of the live production site!). When we upgraded to EE3 3.1.37.P apparently those venue associations (to the WP user accounts) got lost, as our store managers were seeing events for -all- venues, not just their own.

When we go to the venue manager as a WP admin and reassign venues to the store admin WP accounts, they then see only their venue. Note that the venues are still there — just not assigned to the WP user accounts any more. So we know there is a manual fix to this, which we are carrying out right now. Can’t wait and trouble-shoot as we have stores busily preparing events for the holiday weekend.

Any idea what happened or whether maybe something else might happen that we’re not anticipating? I know that’s a tough question…”what’s going to happen that you can’t anticipate?” Anyway, we are trying to anticipate.

EE3 is still the greatest!

Hey Jim,

Any luck pinpointing the issue from your end? I don’t recall any changes to the venues or WP user integration. I suspect it could be related to the recent database restrictions put in place by WordPress in recent weeks.

We manually assigned venues to users again and kind of ignored debugging this. We’re in a production environment with 100 store managers adding events, so we couldn’t wait and do a proper investigation. All done now.
