I am attempting to upgrade Event Espresso via one click upgrades, however when I go to plugins it tells me that I need a valid support license key. When I reset and re activate my support license key the message goes away but I never have the option for one click upgrades. After a day or two the message will re appear saying I do not have a valid license. Event Espresso Version: 3.1.26.P |
Hi Steve, I’ve just rolled over your Support License Key and created a new one for you ending in d2. You can find it in your Event Espresso account: https://eventespresso.com/users/resolutionscart/ If you are using Event Espresso 3, please login to your WordPress admin and locate Event Espresso in the admin menu. Then click on General Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and locate the area for Support License. Now copy the existing key. Then erase the existing key and click on Save Options. After the page refreshes, scroll back down to the Support License area and paste your key and click on Save Options. If you are using Event Espresso 4, please login to your WordPress admin and locate Event Espresso in the admin menu. Then click on General Settings. Copy the existing key which appears at the top of the page. Then erase the existing key and click on Save on the right side of the screen. After the page refreshes, please paste your key and click on Save once more. These steps will refresh your Support License Key for Event Espresso and allow you to update. — |

Hi Lorenzo Thanks for the response! We did follow you instructions for changing the Support License Key for EE3. Although, the only thing that happens is the message under the EE plugin (e.g., “there is an update available, but your Support License Key is invalid”) goes away, There is no update now button. How should we proceed? Important Information |
Hi Steve, In this case I can advise doing a manual update this time. The reason is two-fold: 1) The version of WordPress needs to be updated first. The newer version of Event Espresso will not run on WP 3.5.2, it requires *at least* 3.6, and we recommend updating to the current version of WP to ensure everything will work as expected. 2) Version 3.1.26 of Event Espresso was released over two years ago and the plugin update engine itself has changed since then. You can follow the steps outlined here to do a manual update: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually |

Thanks Josh! We did try and update the plugin manually, although it resulting in us losing all of our previous events / attendee data. That’s why we wanted to try the auto update. So, If we update WordPress, will that allow us to auto update the plugin? FYI, As mentioned before, after re-entering our Support License Key, the update available message went away (as stated in our previous post) and then returns a day later, saying our key is invalid. |
Hi Steve, You’ll want to make sure you back up your data before updating to the newer version of Event Espresso. In this case, you still should try the manual update after updating to the latest version of WP because of reason #2 I mentioned earlier. |

Hi Josh Sorry for being vague about our data issue, after manually updating. It’s not that we lose any data, its that the data isn’t linked to the event plugin. Basically, there are no events in the event overview page after updating. We will update WordPress and then retry the manual update (following your instructions). We will post our results here. Thanks again for your help! |

Hi Josh Quick update… Everything is working great now! We updated WordPress to the latest version. We also manually updated the EE3 plugin. One step we didn’t follow last time was deleting the old plugin after deactivating and before activating the new one. This still resulted in the old event / attendee data to be disconnected. Although, It looks like the events were still there, we just needed to sort by All (Active / Inactive) and then change the status from “Public” to “Ongoing” in order for them to show up in the default filter group. We also created a new event and then deleted it before being able to see the events. Although, we can’t confirm this fixed anything, because we didn’t try filtering by All (Active / Inactive) before this step. Thanks again for all of your help! |
Hi Steve, Thanks for confirming. Be sure that you also update any addons for Event Espresso. https://eventespresso.com/users/resolutionscart/#ee3-downloads — |

Oh, wait, scratch that… Looks like the “Registration End” date hasn’t passed, but the “Event Date” did. So, that probably set the event to inactive. Doh! Sorry for the confusion! |
