I’m hoping you might have some ideas for us, because we can’t seem to get successful transactions working. Everything works perfectly with a PayPal sandbox account. We’ve tried everything on the troubleshooting pages, including setting up the simplified transaction template. Payments are going through and Event Espresso is recognizing payment; attendee status is being changed to Completed. The problem is that users returning from PayPal get the message that the transaction is incomplete (even though everything worked, EE recognized the payment and confirmation emails go out). Would you have any idea why the return page is showing an Incomplete status?
If it shows incomplete on the return page, but EE shows it’s complete on the admin side, it’s usually because PayPal’s Instant Payment Notification hasn’t been received by your site yet. This usually happens when PayPal’s servers seem to be overloaded, they’re just slow.
One quick way to check whether that’s the case is refresh the Thank You page in the browser 10 seconds later. You can even add a message to the Thank You page that says in effect “If you’ve just returned from PayPal.com and the payment status says incomplete, please refresh this page”.
