Hi, I had no idea our website would go into maintenance mode and that there would be a data process to complete before the update. Fortunately the plugins are updated by someone more tech savvy than me and we were able to restore from a backup. Is 5.0.3 glitch free? I cannot go into the code and make these adjustments (I’ve looked over other support topics on EE5). Cal you please assure me that I will be able to move up to v5.0.3 without problems that we have to hire a tech person to fix? We cannot afford to have registrations be disabled. thank you |

Hi there, Version 5 requires some small migrations (venues), so what you saw was expected. You simply need to run through the migrations as instructed. You are also welcome to wait until a later date to update to v 5. |
|
Is there a way I could go through the migrations before adding v5 and getting put into Maintenance mode? We serve a vulnerable population and registrations cannot be down while I figure out how to run migrations I’m not an expert on this type of thing and need time to understand how these specific technical procedures work. |

Hi there,
Which adjustments are you referring to? You should not need to change any code. There was a bug in v5.0.0 to v5.0.2 that prevented migrations working (registrations still worked but events showed no venue) which then required an additional step to fix in 5.0.3 if you were already on V5 before then… however, your site is not so you’ll be installing version 5.0.3 which does not have an issue.
We can never be 100% certain of that, but what we can do, is if you update and run into issues I’m more than happy to re-install the previous version for you (reverting to the previous version is safe to do). As long as you have Wp-Admin (and preferably FTP/File Manager access with your host) we can quickly switch you back to version 4.10.46.
No, maintenance mode is to allow the migration to run. You can’t do the migration before installing the version required for it. The migration basically changes how the data is set up in the database, your current version expects it to be X… v5 expects Y, the migration runs in maintenance mode to update the database for the new version. — Note, the migrations in v5.0.3 should only take a couple of minutes at most (the change is minor) and then once done it will be out of maintenance mode. When you install v5.0.3, EE will go into maintenance mode and show this: https://monosnap.com/file/W7K0GEYyalzUrArSyAObXdV2QvXNm5 Click ‘My Database is backup up, Continue’. You’ll then see this: https://monosnap.com/file/yicG9CcSWr3HXrbmdIU3sIRzT9uQCz Click ‘Begin Database Update’. Once complete it should show this: https://monosnap.com/file/TKmQljgKJRMp9C7PVM4MjfTTwNV5KS Any popups that show will have a ‘next’ or continue button on them, click those to complete the migration and your done. |

Thank you Tony. We rolled the site back to an earlier backup since it was Friday afternoon and I was trying to leave. It’s good to know that it won’t take a long time and that you can help me reinstall the previous version if necessary. I will have to make time to do this when I can focus on it and not be distracted by multitasking demands. |

Hi Angela, Just to make sure it’s clear, to roll your site back we would need WP Admin and FTP credentials (or some file manager access to your server) so before you update make sure you have those credentials in case needed. I mention that because if you update and need to revert, we can’t do anything without the above and that leaves you in a panic trying to get it working or contacting your host for them and waiting. Generally speaking the update and migration works fine but its still worth having the credentials ready ๐ |

Thank you so much Tony. I have been too busy to fix things but will be able to do it soon. Having this plugin makes me feel more comfortable knowing I don’t have to revert and lose site data again. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. |

You’re most welcome ๐ IF something goes wrong with the migration to EE5, the important part is not to panic. You usually won’t need to restore a database backup (although we recommend creating one right before running any updates just to be safe) and can re-install v4.10.46 to get back up and running quickly. If you panic and jump on trying to fix/restore databases etc it’s much harder to troubleshoot and fix the cause after that. Whilst I can’t be around 24/7 I’m more than happy to help troubleshoot an issue with a migration if it happens but either way, you have 4.10.XX to fall back on regardless ๐ |

Thanks so much. I’m not sure how to create a database backup. We do have a good hosting company who updates our plugins, and they back up before they change plugins. I’ll try to coordinate with them. It’s hard when people are on different time zones and not in-house. I’ll try to find a time when most people don’t access the site. best wishes |
