Hi there, my last thread about this issue was on https://eventespresso.com/topic/ee4-reserving-spots-too-long-2/ where last we left off in November, we were going to monitor the site to see if this resolved the issue.
Turns out it’s still often holding on to the last spot in a class, even hours after the person abandoned the checkout.
I know we went through a few layers of troubleshooting already – is there a next step I may try?

Hi Peter,
Have you verified that the wp_cron() task scheduler is working? You can install the WP Crontrol plugin and check its Cron Events page and it list out the cron tasks and if it detects an issue it will show a notification in the admin.

Hi there,
I installed WP Crontol a few minutes ago and am letting it collect data. When I searched for the term “wp_cron” it came back blank, as if that wasn’t an actual thing that it’s doing. Or is it the title of the page? It does show up there, “WP-Cron Events” on that admin page. Sorry for the confusion, trying to provide relevant data.

You might consider deactivating the Broken Link Checker plugin as it tends to require a very significant amount of a server’s resources.
Aside from that you can add this code to your site:
https://gist.github.com/joshfeck/19cf49a2a30e939cca6d0a7014f7c183
and that will add an extra hourly task to clear the reservations.

Do I install that as its own plugin, or do I add it as code to the “custom plugin” I made?
If it’s supposed to be its own plugin, can you briefly describe how I should do that?
