I just spent more than an hour hashing through EE4 setting up an event and learning the program. I saved the event. I created a custom message. I saved the message. I went back to the Event, everything good. Went back to custom message, half of the message was missing. Rewrote and saved again. I realized i needed some information from a custom e-mail in EE3. I deactivated EE4. Activated EE3. Cut the copy, deactivated EE3, activated EE4. The Event was empty except for the title and one payment option (out of six). The custom message had half of the copy missing. Is this program unstable? What am I doing wrong? I never experienced anything like this with EE3. |
Hi Stephen, did you have multiple browser tabs opened while copy and pasting? — |

Greeting, Lorenzo, thank you for attending to this. My frustration with EE4 is pretty high right now. The answer is no. This happened at the end of the day, yesterday, when all I was trying to do was get the EE4 registration working for one of my four events before chucking it in for the night. As I said, I moved between the Event and the Message. The first time the Message had dropped half of the text. That was strange because if I had not saved it shouldn’t it have dropped all of the text? Okay. I replaced the text, moved back to the Event just to make certain before deactivating – okay there. I deactivated, copied from EE3, deactivated EE3, and back in EE4 half the text was missing from the Message starting at a different point, and everything except the title and one ticket (out of six) was missing from the Event. Unfortunately, I am leaving next week to lead an event in Colorado. I have to prepare for that and really don’t have the time to mess with this program. I am thinking of doing a restore on my site and leaving EE4 until I return in October. While I’m gone perhaps your team can work on figuring out why the program is behaving like this (could it have anything to do with the fatal error relating to my other open support ticket?). |
September 19, 2015 at 10:18 am Hi Stephen, could you share a screenshot of what you are seeing for the messages editor? https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-checklist/#screenshots Does it appear that entire blocks of text are missing? — |

September 19, 2015 at 11:37 am Would you please tell me how to turn off the annoying screen prompt? I will send you a screen prompt via the link you provided. But perhaps I can show you here. First, you appear to be addressing just the Custom Message and not the Event, so that’s what this will refer to. I entered the following: Greetings, [fname], I then returned to the Event, finished entering the last tickets. I then went back to the custom message and what was in the box was: Greetings, [fname], I reentered the original text, went back to the Event – Event was fine. I then deactivated EE4, activated EE3, cut some text, deactivated EE3, reactivated EE4, went to the Custom Message first and it read: Greetings, [fname], You may notice that there were five more words appearing this time. I then went to the Event and only one ticket appeared. Now, I will take a screenshot of the Custom Message and send it via the link. |

September 19, 2015 at 11:39 am Okay. I just took a screen shot. I thought you sent me a link to upload it. You sent a link telling me how to take a screenshot. I do not see any attachment buttons on this page and your e-mail is a noreply. How would you like to receive it? |
September 19, 2015 at 12:13 pm Hi, we don’t accept attachments. You would need to capture the screenshot and then upload to a service like Tinygrab or Getcloudapp or Imgur and then link to it here. You can turn off the help tours through Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Admin Options. I do see a possible issue with the message that was copied and pasted — specifically, you can’t use EE3 shortcodes with the messages system for Event Espresso 4. I’ll be able to confirm once I see the screenshot. Thanks — |

September 19, 2015 at 12:29 pm I don’t want to make this more difficult on you, but I anticipated that EE3 shortcodes would not work on EE4. So I replaced the EE3 [fname] shortcode with a cut and paste EE4 [FNAME] that you will see in the screenshot. I am not familiar with Tinygrab or GetCloudapp or IMgur. Can you receive wetransfer? If so, what e-mail do I use to transfer? |

September 19, 2015 at 12:36 pm Got it. I think this is what you want. Let me know if you can access this attachment to the Custom Message page. http://anchellworkshops.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screenshot-2015-09-19-10.38.09.png If you can I want to send a second attachment showing the Event page as it appeared when it was migrated from EE3. At the bottom of the page you will see the fatal error message I referenced. |
September 19, 2015 at 12:45 pm That was very helpful and I understand what is happening. This area isn’t used for the actual content of the email: http://cl.ly/image/0V1B0U0O3y0f The first field is the name of the custom template and the second is a brief description about the custom template. I’ll create a short video tutorial to walk you through the process and then post it here. — |

September 19, 2015 at 12:57 pm Great. Now here’s number 2. When I migrate EE3 to EE4 all of the Events came over looking like this (notice the fatal error message at the bottom): http://anchellworkshops.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screenshot-2015-09-19-10.51.08.png However, they were still connected to there appropriate Attendee list. The new Event I am working on is intended to replace this one. I have 3 more to do once we get this up. |
Hello again Stephen, please see this quick video: http://cl.ly/image/2c3E2o3Y1i22/Screen%20Recording%202015-09-19%20at%2002.48%20PM.gif The next step would be to enable the custom message type for an event. Browse to Event Espresso –> Events. Then click on your event and then scroll to the end of the page and you’ll see a notifications area. Click on the HTML tab and then look for the receipt message type and then click on the dropdown that says global and select your custom message and then save. With that mentioned, I did have a question on editing the receipt template. That does not go out in an email notification. It is available for viewing after registration checkout on the thank you page. Are you actually wanting to include some specific messaging in a custom registration approved message type? That goes out after a successful registration. Thanks — |

EE3 had a custom e-mail that went out automatically when someone registered for a workshop. I thought this was the same thing. What you are saying is that the Custom Message pops up on the screen for the attendee to view upon completing registration. So, how do I send a welcome e-mail? Any idea what happened to my Event? |
|
Okay. So the Custom Template is an automatic e-mail that goes out upon completion of registration? What if I don’t want an invoice generated? |
|
We’re not quite through yet. In your demo video there are 4 options for default templates. My screen shows 2, receipt and invoice. Where are the other two? |
|
I have created an Event and published it. Where is the shortcode? How do I connect it to the actual Event for registration? I’m really not clear on how to make this work. In EE3 I simply pasted a universal shortcode into a WP page and pointed links to it from the Workshop pages. If you have a tutorial I will be glad to watch or read it. |

I have created tickets in a single event, published the event, exited the event, and without doing anything else gone back in to find all but the first ticket missing. I have now done this six times. Why is it not saving the tickets? I could just start a new topic but you currently have admin privileges to my site and can view these screenshots. The first is what the page looks like after I publish it, the second is how it looks after I exit and return. http://anchellworkshops.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screenshot-2015-09-19-13.26.58.png http://anchellworkshops.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screenshot-2015-09-19-13.29.38.png |
September 21, 2015 at 10:36 am Alright, based on your questions, these are the issues that need to be addressed: Create a custom registration approved message type We are going to look at the first two and then come back to the last one to reduce any confusion. **Ensure that all message types are enabled** http://cl.ly/image/0b0w2A0W2V2k/Screen%20Recording%202015-09-21%20at%2012.34%20PM.gif **Registration emails** By default Event Espresso has a set of global message templates that are used for all events. If you would like to customize the message for a specific event, then you would create a custom message template. On your earlier question, you wanted to add the information to the invoice. However, that message type is not sent out after registration checkout. I think you’ll want to add that custom messaging to the registration approved message type for the “registrant” context. You are going to repeat the steps shared here: https://eventespresso.com/topic/drops-info-from-events/#post-173782 In the video, you are editing the Invoice message type. Don’t edit that one. Instead create a custom template for the registration approved message type: http://cl.ly/image/3h3h2u0b3c2p/Screen%20Recording%202015-09-21%20at%2012.31%20PM.gif Note that in the video above, I switch to the registrant context after adding a custom title and description. Afterwards, you’ll want to enable this custom registration approved template for your event. Go to Event Espresso –> Events and click on the name of your event. Then scroll down to the notifications area. Click on the email tab and look for registration approved. It will be set to Global. Switch it to your custom message that you just created and then save changes to the event. Let us know once you have this working. Thanks — |
