I added a drop-down item to a question group to add to a particular form on one of my sites. I added a few options and made the question a Required question.
The only problem is that, when displayed, it defaults to the first option. Thus, if the person doesn’t stop and look at the options he can submit register without ever touching the pull down as option 1 is already selected for him when the form displays. Is there no way to ensure the person makes a selection? Is there a way where it can display “Make a selection” until an option is chosen?
That’s one of the downsides to dropdown selections. I’d recommend changing the question type to a radio button, which requires people to make their own selection with no default.
After I asked the question, I figured out a way to do this. I left the firist “Value” blank and wrote “– Select —” in the “Descrption” field.
The form then correctly determined that there was no selection made if I did not slect something other than the first value because the first value was blank.
