Is there a way to disable the QR Code from appearing on the default ticket that comes with the confirmation email?

Yes, you remove this code from the default ticket template:
<div class="qr_code">[qr_code]</div>

So I have to create a custom ticket instead of removing the above from the php file?

If you remove the above from the plugin’s template file, you’ll lose your changes the next time there’s an update.
