I’m having an issue where someone is testing and when they click to register it takes them to a page that reads “Nothing in your event Queue, you need to select an event before you can begin with the registration process” But, when I do it everything is working fine and the url is exactly the same. Why would this person be having a different user experience? I can’t for the life of me figure out what’s going on. |
Hi Erin, Typically when we see that messaging, its caused by caching or a plugin conflict. You mentioned that this works for you. Could you try running some testing with a different web browser than the one that you are currently using? Caching plugins may not cache for users that are logged in and this test will be helpful in determining the cause of this issue. Thanks — |

Thanks, Lorenzo. I was using Google Chrome, but when I tested Internet Explorer and Safari, I got the same message as that other person. So it’s definitely a browser issue. How do we fix it? |
Hi Erin, who you your web host and could you provide a link to any event on your site? Thanks — |
|

Oh and it happened it Opera, although I’ve never heard of that browser. So it’s really only working in CHrome & Firefox, the rest are all cacheing the plug in. What to do? |

We actually just moved from Go Daddy to WP Engine a couple of weeks ago. And, here’s a link to an event: redacted – Event Espresso support team – LOC |
Thanks Erin! I think the caching may be interfering. Do you remember requesting no-cache rules for Event Espresso? If not, could you please go ahead and do so? I have a sample message that you can copy and paste into a support ticket in the WP Engine garage. https://gist.github.com/lorenzocaum/b83ef46259062202337d#file-new_gist_file-md — |

Thanks, Lorenzo. I sent the letter and they excluded the pages but it’s still happening. Is there anything else I should do, or does it take a while? |
|
Just thought I’d give a morning update that it’s still happening. |
Hi Erin, When I view the site using Google Chrome I’m getting the same error message. I suspect EP Engine are either still caching the pages or need to purge the cache on the server. Are you logged into the site when it works, but logged out when testing other browser and it does not? If so then the reason it is working for your is logged in users are not server cached pages. I would recommend re-contacting WP-Engine and have them double check that they are excluding the correct pages and have purged the cache since setting the exclusion rules. |

Hi Tony, I was logged in while testing and getting same error page now. Their latest response is “The cache should have flushed its self out by this time.” Is that the same thing as “purged the cache?” Also, the pages I gave them to exclude are: /events/ could it be that I have it set up wrong? My main registration page is: http://bwayboundnc.com/fall-2015-classes/event-list-2/ I’m starting to go a little crazy and we have our registration on Tuesday. |
Yes it is.
ah, Yes I can see why now. You have changed the registration-checkout page slug from /registration-checkout/ to /fall-2015-classes/ So WPEngine is still caching /fall-2015-classes/ and not caching /registration-checkout/ (because that’s what we’ve asked them to do) You can either contact WPEngine again and ask them to also exlcude /fall-2015-classes/ from caching, or change the page slug back to /registration-checkout/ and EE should work as expected. |

WP engine did not have my main registration page in the exclusion and once they added it, all seems to be working fine. |
Great 🙂 When you change the page slugs of the EE critical pages you’ll need to update WPEngine with that information. For example next year that page may well be changed to /fall-2016-classes/… WPEngine will cache that new page and cause the same problem all over again, because its not in the exclusion list. Does that make sense? |

thanks for the heads up moving forward. I guess it would be simple if it stayed the same link, but the reason why I change it is so that no one has the link for new registrations and I can have it open to test. so happy to have found the issue and you guys are always great at helping out. |
You could just set your event to private. That way only logged in users can register onto the event, or you could set it to be password protected. (Note the EVENT can be private/password protected, the main event page, which is currently ‘/fall-2015-classes/’ must be published) However the way you have it now will also work, just requires a little extra work to make sure its not cached. Any other problems just let us know. |
