I have been searching the forums but I’m still confused on the best way to delete past events. I don’t want to manually delete each transaction in order to permanently delete the event. I also do not want to reset my event expresso because it will delete my current events. Is there any other option such as delete tables from MYSQL in order to remove past events from the database? Otherwise is the best way to do this is reset event expresso and manually add my current events?

Hi Sara,

Deleting whole tables of event and the registration related data can lead to many problems going forward. May I ask is there any registration data that needs to remain on the site or is all of that data no longer wanted?

I have so many past events that the site has gotten really large. In order to remove the past events (permentaly delete) I have to delete each transaction etc., this would take a long time. If I reset event expresso it clears everything out (correct) and I have a bunch of upcoming events and don’t want to manually enter them all in again. So the events in Dec. and Jan. I don’t want to lose. I was hoping there was a way to permanently delete past events without having to reset event expresso. For example going into MYSQL and clearing out old data.

What method would you recommend?

The reason I asked the question about whether there is any registration data that needs to remain on the site or is all of that data no longer wanted is because if there is some registration data, like registration data related to upcoming events, then you really should not go in and delete whole tables. If you go into phpmyadmin and start deleting data you’ll need to be very selective.

If there is no registration data that needs to be preserved, then the tables that start with _esp, that deal with registrations, transactions, line items, payments, can be emptied to remove that data. I’d strongly recommend making a backup of the database before clearing out old data.
