Hi,

I assigned to translate.eventespresso.com, to get the newest version of german translation. I got this hint from an older support-topic.

I created the .mo file with poedit und renamed it, because the filename of the downloaded file is not the same as in the folder pluginfolder/languages. I got this hint from an older support-topic.

I put the file to uploads/espresso/languages. But it doesn’t work. I also overwrote the orignal file in pluginfolder/languages. It also doesn’t work.

If I use my .mo-file, all text are shown in english instead of german.

What can be the reason, that the translation-file doesn’t work correctly.

Best regards,
Daniela

Hi Daniela,

I created the .mo file with poedit und renamed it, because the filename of the downloaded file is not the same as in the folder pluginfolder/languages. I got this hint from an older support-topic.

We actually fixed that on translate.eventespresso.com a little while ago, the downloads will have the filename event-espresso-4-{locale} which is correct. If you download multiple instances of the same file, you’ll have a number in the filename, for example event-espresso-4-de_DE (10).po which would obviously need to be renamed but other than that, the files work as is now.

The filename in event-espresso-core-reg/languages/ follows the WP standard of {text_domain}_{locale}, the file in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/languages/ could follow any nameing convention, however, EE will check for:

event_espresso-{locale}.mo
event-espresso-4-{locale}.mo

In that order, the reason for this is backward compatibility with older methods.

Which filename are you using for your po/mo files?

I put the file to uploads/espresso/languages. But it doesn’t work. I also overwrote the orignal file in pluginfolder/languages. It also doesn’t work.

Please do not edit any of the files within /event-espresso-core-reg/, I’m guessing you did so to test if your MO file worked, but editing files within the core plugin will cause issues.

If I use my .mo-file, all text are shown in english instead of german.

Can you send me your PO file so I can take a look at the file?

Hi Tony,

I saved the original .mo file and loaded my .mo file instead, because I wanted to know where the error is.
I named the file event_espresso-de_DE.mo like the file in /event-espresso-core-reg/languages.

Ok will rename the file to event-espresso-4-de_DE.mo and check if it will work.
If not, I send you the po file.

Thank you very much,
Daniela

Hi Tony,

I renamed the file to event-espresso-4-d_DE.mo, but nothing changed. I checked the text: “After clicking “Finalize Registration”, you will be given instructions on how to access your invoice and complete your payment.
Please note that event spaces will not be reserved until payment is received in full, and any remaining tickets could be sold to others in the meantime. ”

It is shown on the page of payment options during the booking process, after clicking the radiobutton of the invoice.

I send you the .po-file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e4ek7akqofxyiek/event-espresso-4-de_DE.po?dl=0

Thanks,
Daniela

Hi Daniela,

The reason that text is not changing is it has already been saved to the database.

If a field is ‘hardcoded’ into EEs templates etc, the PO/MO files will allow you to change them on the fly. However there’s a lot of fields that we save to the database to allow the admin to edit them, this is one of them.

Go to Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> Invoice.

In ‘Description’ you’ll find the text you are trying to translate.

The reason that text is in the PO files is if the translations file is active when EE is activated, it will translate and then be stored in the database, after that you can only edit that section from the admin.

Hi Tony,
YES that was it.

On the frist step of booking, there is the booking form with the Headline Attendee instead of “Teilnehmer” in german. The entry “Attendee #” is available in .po and translated. Why is the text shown in english instead of german?

Best regards, Daniela

Download the latest POT file here: http://take.ms/RVPj9

Then update you PO file using that file (within POEdit its Catalog -> Update from POT file…)

Then check if the translation applies with the updated file.
