Hi, I hired a freelancer to do some customization on my event list and event detail view and the porr guy just gave up, saying there was no way he could change anything, that it was all embedded in php code…
Is that right? Obviously I am not a coder and can not figure it out by myself. But please advice how to do layout changes. Thanks in advance.

Hi there Olivier,

We can help you out.

First, there are some templates available that are used by Event Espresso. However, they should not be edited directly as those customizations would be lost on a software update.

We have a resource that explains how the templates work together here:

Could you share some more information on a specific area that you are trying to change? Then we can provide some additional information for getting started.

Thanks Lorenzo, but my freelancer is giving up, not his cup of tea obvously. Can you help? Do you sometimes do customizations for your customers? Or can you point me to someone who does?

Hi Olivier,

We have a few developers familiar with Event Espresso listed here:

https://eventespresso.com/developers/event-espresso-pros/

However before moving onto customizations can you let use know what it is your trying to change please? We may already have something similar you can use.

Event Espresso uses your sites theme to output the events and hooks into the_content() to add details, however you can also template the output just like you can using standard themes and we also have helper classes that include functions to output various details.

This may not make any sense to you right now (as your not a coder ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) but I just wanted to note (for future readers too) that there are many different ways to output the data, and many different places it is output. I don’t know what your freelancer was trying to work on, but Event Espresso allows for templating in a vary similar way to most WordPress themes.

Anyway, if you let us know what your looking to do we can provide some points on the next best steps to take ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to do very little actually: some reshuffling of content blocks, font/size/color finetuning, button styling etc. What do you think?

Hi Olivier,

Could you link to a specific page with more information on what you are trying to change?

We’ll then share some additional feedback on making those changes.

Thanks

Lorenzo
