Happened all of a sudden as I was updating the custom form. I do not know what I did wrong. All of my other custom forms have [ATTENDEE_LIST] * blank. Also demanding [QUESTION_LIST] * filled out which is not needed.

Hi there,

I’ll check into this further to find out why they are now being marked as required.

However, if you are not calling the [ATTENDEE_LIST] or [QUESTION_LIST] shortcodes within the content then you don’t need to empty those fields.

The sections are called by using the relevant shortcodes for that section, so to give a quick example, in the registration approved message type the [ATTENDEE_LIST] section is called from within [EVENT_LIST]:

https://monosnap.com/file/jDF3I5wP22fZ6FNZWBPT7rg87u6I4s

If you remove the shortcode calling [ATTENDEE_LIST] the contents of that section are irrelevant as they aren’t being called so you can add dummy content to those sections as a work around to allow the template to save.

I have checked and so far as I can tell the “Registrant Details” on the “Event Admin” tab does call for [ATTENDEE_LIST]. However on this tab the box “[ATTENDEE_LIST]” is populated with code from the template:
<h4>[FNAME] [LNAME]</h4>

<hr />

And “[QUESTION_LIST] *” is populated with [QUESTION].

HOWEVER, on the “Registrant” tab, I do not find any reference to either [ATTENDEE_LIST] * or [QUESTION_LIST] * and yet I cannot save unless I put something in these boxes which I never had to do before. In order to save, I have populated these boxes with “[FNAME] [LNAME]” and “[QUESTION]”.

If they aren’t called via a shortcode then nothing will be displayed from them, anything in those fields will do as long as it’s considered valid.

HOWEVER, on the “Registrant” tab, I do not find any reference to either [ATTENDEE_LIST] * or [QUESTION_LIST] * and yet I cannot save unless I put something in these boxes which I never had to do before.

Yeah, I understand.

Have you been using an older version for a while?

If unsure you can find your EE4 activation history in Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System Information.

Search for ‘ee activation history’

Have you jumped a good few versions recently?

(I’m trying to check when this may have happened and if it’s a ‘new’ issue/bug or not)

I do not believe I have been using an old version. Here is my Activation History from 2022:
2022-01-20 14:45:05
2022-01-25 14:43:56
2022-03-15 13:43:59
2022-05-26 13:35:16
2022-06-14 15:00:55
2022-06-15 21:29:00
2022-07-08 13:34:41
2022-07-11 13:34:23
2022-07-14 14:15:58
2022-07-25 13:11:57
2022-07-29 13:16:44
2022-09-29 15:27:29
2022-09-30 16:23:28
I suspect something changed on 9/30 as it was about then I started having this problem.

Thank you, your activation history would suggest you’ve been using the latest version although usually it will list the version. Here is an example from one of my test sites:

`
4.10.37.p ( 2 )
2022-07-22 14:19:50
2022-09-26 19:41:35
4.10.38.p ( 2 )
2022-07-28 21:00:14
2022-09-26 19:42:24
4.10.39.p ( 2 )
2022-09-28 23:44:46
2022-09-29 17:04:17
4.10.40.p ( 2 )
2022-09-29 17:00:23
2022-09-29 17:05:41
`

Version 4.10.39 and 4.10.40 were released on the 28/29th of September.

The version before, 4.10.38 also has those fields set to be required.

Strange, I’ve created a ticket for this to investigate further.
