September 10, 2014 at 10:57 pm I found a couple of threads pertaining to my question but they are around 1 year old. https://eventespresso.com/topic/using-post-types-in-line-w-wp-practices/ My client needs a couple of front end drop down filters that are not currently possible to do with the plugin. If there is a way to get WP-Types and Wp-Views to pull data from EE my problems would be solved. It appears from the link above that this has been talked about before and was going to added in newer EE 4.3. If it did get added it’s not showing up for me in Types or Views. I put in a request to “custom development” between 2 and 3 weeks ago but have not heard back. I really like this plugin, it is versatile and has a good amount of customization. It would just be nice if it were coded more for WP like some of the other popular plugins (like woo). |

Hi Candis, The thread you linked to is a year old and since that point, EE4 has been released. EE4 does use custom post types for events, though due to the complexity of the data required, custom tables are also used (we simply couldn’t use custom meta for this sort of data). We have tried as much as possible to follow WordPress coding standards through the creation of Event Espresso. I’m assuming what you are trying to do with these Views and Types plugins is to get meta data? If that is the case then it is likely that the information isn’t stored in the custom fields. I’ll get your custom development request chased up, I’m sorry about the delay with that! |

September 15, 2014 at 10:29 am Hi there, I reviewed your custom development request. Have you taken a look at the calendar add-on? The reason I ask is because the calendar has a feature that includes a built-in category and venue selector. Here’s a 20 second demo that shows what it looks like. Will something like this work for your client? |

September 15, 2014 at 11:52 am I had tried out the calender plugin but it wasn’t what they were looking for. They really like the table view. Another thing that would still be an issue (may not be able to be fixed without adding more categorie types or tax types) is that they have 3 separate sections on their site that uses EE but there separate event types with different categories. The issue being that unrelated categories show up in the filter for different event types. For example they have: Training events, webinars events, and workshops events. They would like the respective categories to show only in the particular events that they belong to. It seams to me that this issue may be resolved with having extra categories like categories 2,3, etc. and then maybe a shortcode to include only certain categories into filter depending on the page. I’m assuming running multiple EE’s on one site will not work properly correct? |
September 15, 2014 at 12:17 pm That’s correct, EE can be installed once per site. If you tried to install EE twice, functions would be declared twice, and PHP will throw a fatal error. Another option that may work for you is to use a Mega menu that lists all the event categories and venues available to browse through. Since Event Espresso 4 uses custom post types and taxonomies, each menu item could be managed in the built in WP menu manager to point to a specific taxonomy archive. Since we are not in a position to take on custom development work at this time, we can recommend contacting one of our recommended developers for a quote if you need a custom solution built: |
