We would like to send batch messages for event reminders before an event. I’ve tried to create Newsletter type custom message template but there are no shortcodes for event information. Then I’ve tried to create Receipt type custom message template which has a whole lot of event info but does not appear as an option when sending the message.

Can you please advise what the best way is for sending event reminders? Thanks!

Hi Karen,

Currently the Newsletter message type is ‘contact’ based, meaning it pulls in the contacts for all of the registrations within an event and builds an email using those contacts. This means that shortcodes other than contact shortcodes ([FNAME], [LNAME] etc) are unavailable within the newsletter at this time, the newsletter doesn’t know what event it is sent from, it just has a list of contacts to send the message to.

So to do this you would need to construct each events newsletter manually as a separate template and select that template when sending a batch email.

Thanks, Tony. Is there another message type that I can use to send batch message to event registrants, that can incorporate shortcodes with event info?

Currently the newsletter message type is the only message type that allows you to select specific registrants and send a custom message to those registrants.

The registration messages can use event shortcodes, but they do not allow you to select and send a custom message.

You could create a custom newsletter message template and manually input all of the details needed there and then use that with the batch emails, would that work?

Thanks for confirming that the Newsletter message type is the only message type that will work with sending batch message. That saves me from having to try each of them! I’ll try what you’ve suggested with manually adding the event details.
