Is there a way to use the Automated Upcoming Event Notification to send a different template based on which event is selected? Ideally we would have a template for each event type so that the reminder email contains information that is pertinent to that specific event rather than a blanket email that contains the same information for each event… I was hoping that there was a way to put a “If/Then” expression into the template such that if the Event Title was “X” then the body of the email would contain Y, etc…

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Within Event Espresso you have a ‘Global’ message templates and Custom message templates.

The ‘Global’ message template is the one used by all events by default. Those are the templates you find in Event Espresso -> Messages -> Default Message Templates.

Custom message templates are those which you can create an assign to specific events, which sounds like what you are looking for above. We don’t have conditionals within templates but you can create multiple custom message templates and assign each specific one to that event you need it to be for.

Theres a couple of ways to create custom templates, so I’ll go over both briefly but if you need more details just let me know.

I’ll use the Automated Upcoming Event Notification for my examples as that is what you are asking for here, but this related to pretty much all message types.

Go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Default Message Templates.

Find the ‘Automated Upcoming Event Notification’ and click the ‘Create Custom’ button on the left of that row.

EE will create a custom version and take you to editing that message type directly. At this point give the custom template a meaningful name and hit save (if any of the fields complain that they are required but are empty, add a space and just save).

Its important to note the message ‘context’ you are working on when editing messages, so take a look over this: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/messages-system-working-with-message-contexts/

That method gives you a custom template from the messages section, its also possible to create one from an actual event, its very similar just how you crate the template is a little different.

Edit an Event you want a custom message template for.

Find the ‘Notifications’ section, in there you’ll see all your message types.

On the ‘Automated Upcoming Event Notification’ you’ll see a dropdown which will likely be set to Global: https://monosnap.com/file/HEAvxx7lp8S9YpltcBuAatFI6grrPD

In that dropdown you an select a previously create custom message for that message type (you don’t need a new one for every event if you setup you message templates to be generic enough for a type of event). You can either select a custom template there if you have a suitable one and then save, or…

Hit the ‘Create New Custom’ button on that row.

EE will show you a modal asking for a name and description, this is where you set a meaningful name for you customer template and a description. Click create.

At this point EE will NOT direct you to edit the template this time, it will create it in the background and assign it to the event. Note my event now has a ‘Test’ template assigned to it: https://monosnap.com/file/ise8uBnkanSXG8DgQXffnKkTCzCZwh

If you click the Edit button on that row it will take you to edit the template in a new tab. Both get your to the same place in the end, personally, I prefer to use the notifications section.

Also, you can view all of your custom message templates in Event Espresso -> Messages -> Custom Message Templates (tab).
