We have upgraded from EE3 to EE4 and need to add new email messages that we can manually send to users like we did in EE3. Was this feature that was removed? I don’t see anywhere to add a new message.

Hi Toni,

We have rewritten the messaging system in EE4. There is still a way to send custom messages. I recommend familiarizing yourself with the EE4 Messaging System: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/email-manager/#40_

I am happy to answer anymore questions you might have.

It looks like the feature was removed according to that information. For instance, we had several reasons that we might decline approval, and different emails for each reason. We also had event reminders we could manually send out to all attendees. It appears from the link that we can no longer add new email messages (although we can create custom versions of existing ones), nor can we send any emails manually aside from re-sending the original registration details.

Is that correct? Will we have to do custom development to maintain this EE3 feature like we are having to do to maintain the locales/regions feature?

Hi, you could use the newsletter message type for those notifications by creating several custom versions of those.

Then you can send them out by placing a checkmark next to a registrant/attendee and then scrolling down and clicking on the Send Batch Message. Then select your custom newsletter message through the Select Template option.

This will pre-populate the message and then you can send it.

But I can’t reference the event from that email as far as I can tell, so I would have to make a ‘newsletter’ for each message type for each event, right?

Currently we have 20 email templates in EE3, so if I’m understanding this right I’d have to make 20 newsletters PER EVENT in EE4?

Hi, you would not need to create those for each event unless there was event-specific information for each. If those messages will contact general information on why a registration is being declined then you could use the same set for all events.

Yeah, the event reminders are going to be event specific. And denying registration really ought to mention the event at some point too. I take it this functionality has also been removed in EE4?

Hi, unfortunately that is not available at this time. However, we have had other members request that the newsletter message type be event aware so we have an open feature request for that.

That’s not correct. Nothing was removed from EE4, because EE4 was built from the ground up. As time goes by, features like newsletters get added to EE4, not removed.
