As we reopen from the pandemic, surely I’m not the first person to have this issue, but I can’t find anything online here. I work for a small non-profit in the US and we have two major events coming up in 2022 for which work is beginning. I’ve used EE4 successfully for years but that was all before the time of the virus. My management has asked me to explore how we would implement a COVID vaccination-required item in the registrations. Please set aside all your concerns and issues about vaccination and COVID – that’s not the point here, I’m just asking about the mechanics. – One approach is to require uploading of a proof of vaccination by uploading a .jpg of a card card during the registration, but I’m not aware of any means to require an upload. Is there a way? – If I could require an upload, I suppose I could have an admin-only question for “card inspected & ok”? If not ok then I would have to refund those registrations? How would I see the images? – If an upload can be done, is there a way to condition/block a registration if the upload is not done, ie the upload becomes like a required question? – I could have a radio button question for “Are you vaccinated? yes/no.” Is there a way to condition/block/allow registration to complete bases on that? Maybe make that a required question with only one answer? I know there are a bunch of other issues, like persons medically unable to take the vaccination, or counterfeit cards…I’ll figure out those edge cases later if I can find a method to start with. Thanks! |

Hi there,
We (EventEspresso.com) don’t have a method to upload files during registration although I have seen this available as a 3rd Party add-on here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/files-addon-for-event-espresso-4/ This sounds like what you need, however, note that we don’t provide support for plugins we didn’t create (like the above) and I haven’t tested any of its functionality.
If using the above add-on the reg question used to upload a file should show up when editing the registration in the admin along with any other questions: Event Espresso -> Registrations -> {click to edit the registraton} -> Reg Form answers at the bottom.
You would just edit the question itself within Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Questions and set it to be required. A required question must have an answer on the reg form to complete.
I’ve seen other users do something similar to this. You can’t block/allow registrations based on the answer but you can make it require so it must be checked to continue. Meaning rather than having a ‘Are you vaccinated?’ question with Yes/No. You would have ‘I confirm I am fully vaccinated’ with a checkbox. As it’s a required question you must check it to continue. The way to do that is to go to Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Questions. Create a new checkbox question with a single option using something like the phrasing above, set the question to be required. Add that question to a question group which you request on the event and it will show up. — Some users are also setting the ‘Default Registration Status’ to Not Approved and basically reviewing every registration that comes in and changing the status to either cancelled, pending payment (waiting payment and doesn’t count towards ‘sold’ values) or Approved (basically ‘sold’, mean the registration takes a space in the event regardless of payment status) Would any of the above set ups work for you? I can add some more details if needed but I’ll need to know which one you want to use. |

Thanks for the ideas. I’ll have to go look at that plugin. I try to keep plugins to a minimum because you never know what side effects they might have, but I like some of the other ideas. As a variation of the single-answer checkbox question, how about a required text entry question that asks something like “Type your initials here to certify your are vaccinated.” Would that work? We charge for these events using your Braintree gateway – If we used the Registration is Not Approved method, when does the payment process – at the time of registration, or when it’s set to Approved? |

In short, any ‘required’ question will work in that you must answer it to proceed. So you can’t really have a ‘yes/no’ type question but more of a confirmation.
If you use Not Approved, all registrations will be stopped once they enter the registration details. They wont see the payment options until you (the admin) change the status to something other than ‘Not Approved’, generally I recommend using ‘Pending payment’ and triggering the message that does with that status so they can use the link in th email to complete payment. |
