My client is offering online courses and, therefore, has registrants from many countries. I know that I can add countries and their states/provinces either manually or through country packs add-ons. However, the big problem is the stat/province dropdown box. There, I end up with a huge list of many countries and states, in no particular order, it seems. Is there a way to have the state dropdown box dependent on the country field and show only provinces of the selected country? If that is no at all possible, is there a way, at least, to put the country/states in alphabetical order? The way it looks now is very chaotic. |
Hi there, It turns out that the states should be in an alphabetical order. For example, if you have installed the state packs for Mexico, Canada, and the United States, the very first Country listed in the States list will be So while at first glance it may seem chaotic because the country groups within the select options are in the order of
Not yet, but there is a ticket that’s assigned to a developer to add this to Event Espresso core. I will update this thread when this has been added.
Update: No longer needed because of the feature added in 4.9.13.p.

Thank you very much. It works fine. Just one little glitch: now it selects Alabama as the default choice, I guess because it is alphabetically the first. How would you change the code so that there is no default selection. I looked, but I can’t find where the default is chosen. |
Oh yeah, that happens in Chrome. Can you try the updated gist? |

Update: This was added in 4.9.13.p. |

I have 4.9.12. Is 4.9.13 out yet? Also, on the registration page, the “state/Province” field comes before the “Country” field. How would I reverse that to take advantage of this improvement? |

Should my site plugins tell me to upgrade? I don’t see it. Why? |
Yes.
You go to edit the question group that has your State and Country questions (Address Question Group). Then you drag the Country question and drop it so it’s just before the State question.
Eventually it will. What happens is the Plugin updater client on your site will ping ee.com every 24 hours to check for updates. You can force it to check right now by going to your WP dashboard, then Event Espresso > General Settings, then click the Save button. |

Just upgraded to 4.9.13. I am now seeing a list of all countries and states/provinces in TEXT (very long list) right on the registration page. If there is no quick fix for this, how can I revert back to 4.9.12? See partial screenshot: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4461710/Screen%20Shot%202016-09-28%20at%207.56.19%20PM.png |
Did you remove the temporary work-around posted earlier? |

In fact, I had not. That did the trick. Thank you. |
