I recently purchased a license for EE4 but have yet to take it live. I think I’ve found somewhat of a deal-breaker for my use:
The events I manage are usually fully booked (25 tickets) in a matter of minutes, and in my testing it seems that registrations do not count toward the limit before registrants have filled in the Personal Information and initiated payment despite choosing “Approved” as default registration status.
I’m afraid this will result in massive overbooking as we will have lots of people wishing to register the minute registration opens, and that each of them will spend some time filling out their information and paying for the event, allowing other people to open the registration page before the first have completed, leaving us with more registrants than we can accommodate.
Have I missed some setting? Is it some caching issue? Or is this the only way EE handles registrations?
It turns out they’re working on this issue by adding some new features to keep track of all ongoing and in progress registrations and the work is mostly finished. The work is published in this branch of Event Espresso 4 that you can download from Github here:
You’re more than welcome to try it out on your website. The one caveat at the moment that needs to be worked out is if someone starts a registration, goes to PayPal to pay, then abandons (doesn’t pay/closes the browser at PayPal.com) their spot doesn’t get released back into the available count.
