My customer said her customers keep getting confirmation emails over and over. Any ideas what would cause that? |
One person said they received over 100 emails. |
Hi Dorian, If you go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Message Activity Do you see the multiple emails there or just one set? |
One set |
There is a set in Queued for Sending. Why would they not send? Also there were like 20 sets sent exactly on September 5, 2016 9:56 pm. |
I went into Queued and tried to force send them and got this error: An error has occurred: |
So you don’t see the duplicates….
But you do see the duplicates? Are the 20 sets all the same email or different registrations? I need to know if the duplicate emails are being logged in the messages queue (meaning they are happening within EE and the messages system) or you see one set and that’s then being received multiple times (an issue AFTER EE has trigger them to send). |
I do not see duplicates in there. It is several sets sending over and over. |
Ok thank you, so its after the messages system. Which host are you using? Any caching enabled either by plugins or on the server itself? We have seen something similar happen when object caching was enabled on the server. |
Site5 We have 14 sites using EE and only one is seeing this issue right now. Everything has been fine up until the other day. But what about the one that was stuck in Queued to be sent? It was from the 3rd. It never sent. |
If only that site has caching enabled, and that’s what is causing it, it will only happen on that site. Right now I’m working through what would be the common causes.
Do you see an ‘i’ within the actions column? |
I don’t have any caching plugins installed. I had already deleted them so I do not remember. |
Ok. You could try switching the messages system to not use wp_cron for the emails and see if that makes a difference to the duplicates. Go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Settings. There you will find the option ‘Generate and send all messages:’, set that to ‘On the same request’ and save the settings. Then confirm if you still receive duplicate emails.
Without knowing what error was being thrown I can’t tell what the problem was, as you’ve now deleted those messages we can’t troubleshoot unless your still receiving the same error on other messages? |
Was the one site where you’re seeing the issue updated to WordPress 4.6 around the time that the issue started? |
No. I asked her today if she has received any more calls and she said no. Maybe it was a fluke. |
Not likely a fluke. May I ask which version of WordPress is installed on the site that has the email issues? |
4.6.1 |
4.6.1 was released today, and one of the fixes included in 4.6.1 happened to fix an issue with emails not getting sent properly through PHPmailer on some hosts. When the email issues occurred earlier, was the site running WordPress 4.6? |
It was |
That may have been why there was email delivery issues on that site then. |
