Hey guys,

I had a message to update the EE plug in my WordPress dashboard today. I did that and now I am getting a message that EE is in “complete maintenance mode”

It is asking me to back up the database, which I don’t know how to do. I also want to make sure I have not lost all of my registration data for my event which is just over a month away now.

Hi there,

It is asking me to back up the database, which I don’t know how to do.

The easiest way to do this if you are unsure, is to ask your host to create a database backup of your site.

Its good practice to make a database backup of your site before you run any updates (not just Event Espresso but any plugin/theme update).

Do you have access to a control panel with your host? If so I can guide you on creating a backup. Or you can install a plugin such as BackUpWordPress and use that to create a backup.

I also want to make sure I have not lost all of my registration data for my event which is just over a month away now.

None of your data has been removed, the migration is there because something has been changed in the database structure so the database needs an update.

The reason you need a database backup before doing it is incase something goes wrong (its rare that it does) as your database is what stores all your data, so you backup before any work is done on said data.

I had this same issue so I worked out how to backd up my database. Followed all the instructions and still my event espresso is in maintenance mode. I did the update again, this time 1/1 and still in maintenance mode. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

Did you follow the prompts to do the database update? If so, what happened after the migration was finished?

If you go to the Event Espresso > Maintenance page does it show an option to turn off Maintenance mode?

I did everything as the prompt said to do. I did the same process on a different site and when it was finished, I pressed the Next button and it took me to the -Turn off Maintenance mode. I followed the same process for my second site and it keeps taking me in a loop. First time round it said 26/26. The second time I did it on my second site it said 1/1 but it won’t come out of the loop so I can turn off maintenance mode.

It sounds like another plugin is interfering, and thus causing the loop that you can’t get out of. What you can do is deactivate other plugins on the site and/or temporarily switch to a default theme. Then go to the Maintenance page where you’ll be able to switch off Maintenance mode.

If you know how to use your browser’s developer’s tools, you could check for an error in the console which would likely pinpoint exactly which plugin or theme function is interfering.

I worked it out. I had run another instance of the site and it worked fine. When I double checked what I had changed, I realised I had deactivate LiteSpeed Cache plugin. Avoid this plugin as it has caused so many issues and this is just another one.

What may have happened there was the LiteSpeed Cache plugin had combined all of the JavaScript into one file, which can be good for speed, but doesn’t always work as intended.

Did just as you said Josh. Backed up the site. Did the database update, turned off maintenance mode. Everything working fine.

Thanks for the quick reply.
