My client just sold her first event using your system. Most smooth, but one problem. 2 classes were overbooked because a user’s registration status was stuck on Pending Payment, even though her payment went through (PayPal). That allowed an extra user to register for each class, so now she has 7 attendees instead of 6. Is there a way to prevent this happening in future. It is very important that she doesn’t oversell the available spots.

Hi there,

Which PayPal payment method are you using?

If you check the servers error logs from around the time of the registration in question, does it show any errors from Event Espresso?

We are using the Woocommerce Paypal plugin.

Unfortunately I didn’t have a debug log set up for this. But I’ve added that now.

Ok, so I know from another thread you’re using the EE PayPal Express payment method.

The only time I see something like this happen with that payment method is when either, the user doesn’t return back from the site after making a payment on PayPal’s side (rare, that should be happening automatically, unless the user closes the browser themselves)… or an error is thrown on the request when the user gets back to the site (which we would need the error from the logs for).

I’d like to say this is a known issue and here’s a fix, but as far as I am aware this isn’t a common issue with the PayPal Express payment method. We’ll need the error logs for another registration this happens on to help narrow this down, unfortunately.

I can take a look over the Payment logs and see if anything stands out there if you’d like?

Those are stored within Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> logs (but they may only go back 1 week depending on your settings).

If you prefer to look through those yourself thats fine, but I can’t tell you what to look out for because I simply don’t know. I would just been looking for anything I could spot that wasn’t the norm for those payment requests.

If you’re happy for me to look, just send over temp login details using this form:

Hi, I checked and the logs go back far enough I think to check the overbooked classes. What email should I use to set you up with a user account?

It doesn’t matter in this case, but you can use support[at]eventespresso.com
