Hi there, We want to offer free or paid events, but charge the fee or a “fine” only _after_ the event was not attended. So, for example, a Prospect books an event, but does not show up. In this case, we want to charge XY amount of USD. If the prospect calls, or shows up, we charge nothing, or the fee of the event depending on the nature of the event. Can we do this with EE? Thank you. |

Hi there, I don’t think the feature set we currently have will work for you in this case. Event Espresso does not capture and save card details to charge the registrant at a later date, so the above is possible to do but you would need to manually change the registration onto a ticket with a price attached to it and then send the user an email to pay the ‘fine’. They click the link in the email and it opens the usual ‘Payment Options’ step they went through previously to pay. I’m assuming you want to capture the card details during the registration and then have the ability to charge the card based on the above? |

Hello Tony, thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay on my end. I understand capturing the card details would likely not only be a technical challenge but also a Privacy issue.
Exactly that would be the desired flow. I think it would be possible with Stripe, they at least do offer an api for similar things, but if that is legal, I did not even consider this at first, I just know that some hotel services do that for example, if you book a room, and don’t show up, they “fine” you. I am not sure on the “legal” side of this, but if you find a way to implement it in the Plugin it surely would be a great thing to have! Thanks |

Doing so directly takes you to a whole other level in terms of PCI compliance, in short, it’s an area we will likely not be taking Event Espresso because it opens up a can of worms for both you and us (although really, its more rick on you, the end users than us afaik). Just to be clear, the feature I am referring to would be to allow you (the end-user of Event Espresso) to collect card details, save them within your own database to then be processed later. Now, (as you’ve also mentioned) something like this would be possible with a payment method like Stripe in which they have tokenized the details and allow you to then save the token and use it later. There are still hoops that need to be jumped through for that to work, but it’s possible.
In terms of legalities it’s going to be different for various locations but I would imagine if the above ‘fine’ was clearly stated in the terms and conditional of sale, which the user has to accept to continue it would be ok… but again, just a guess. However, right now it’s not something we have planned for Event Espresso and is in a different direction than what we (the EE team) have discussed previously. I will create a feature request for it so we can track and consider it for a future version. |
