I am struggling to change a name that is typed in as a duplicate in registration. When going to edit contact to change one ticket it will overwrite all tickets to that one name. I used to be able to change these without error and something switched and it has now reverted all changed names back. Any guidance you can give me would be much appreciated.
So the way registrations work within EE is to have an ‘EE_Contact’, which you can think of as you, the person, and then you can register for multiple events. You’re still the same person, but registered into multiple tickets, right?
So when you create a registration and input your first name, last name and email, EE searches internally for an EE contact matching those details and it uses the ID to link the registration to it.
What that mans is you could have Registration ID 220, 221, 223 all linked to the same contact. When you edit the contact it looks like you are editing ‘ALL’ of the registrations with new details, but really you are editing one entity and all of the registrations an pulling the details from that entity.
So when you want to change a group registration where they are all linked to the same contact, you first need to ‘break’ the relationship between the current contact and a new one. To do that, edit the registration in question and click on the ‘Create contact’ button in the top right:
What that will do, is create a NEW contact and assigned it to the current registration you are editing. Note that when you do the above, EE needs to create a contact so it uses the same details as the current one, edit that contact and it will only update on the current registration, not the group.

Huh? The way EE_Contacts and EE_Registrations have worked has been the same since pretty much the start of EE4 so I’m not sure what changed here.
