I’d like to change the wording on the page that follows the check payment. We are finding the wording at the bottom pf the page is confusing people.

I don’t see a setting for this in the settings and I can’t find the correct template page. Can someone point me in the right direction.

You can find that string within \event-espresso\gateways\check\check_payment_vars.php line 60
Rather than editing the template file I would recommend translating that string to alter it to using the guide posted here:
https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/
If you would like to edit the template file I would recommend copying the \event-espresso\gateways\check folder to wp-content\uploads\espresso\gateways\ and editing the file there to keep your modifications after Event Espresso updates.
