Hello!
We’ve recently had a change in leadership for our event and want to change the organization’s email. I’ve read support topics that say I should be seeing a settings page on WordPress for Event Espresso so that I can do this, but I don’t see that. Under settings all I see is “Payment Methods” Is there a way to fix this? I should have full access to the plug-in.

Hi there,

In your standard WP Dashboard (outside of EE for a minute) can you see the ‘Settings’ page? So Dashboard -> Settings -> General, does that load with your user account?

The reason I’m asking is the EE General Settings option is based on your account having the ‘manage_options’ capability, which also controls the above.

No I don’t. Under Dashboard I see “Home” and “Updates.” Anything I can do to fix that?

In short, you need to log into a standard Administrator account to view all of the settings within EE.

Your account either does not have the role of ‘Administrator’ or, your account has limited capabilities from the administrator role. You need at least the ‘manage_options’ capability on your user account to view the General Settings page, which is normally set on an admin account.

From a security perspective, logging into an account that only gives you access to the day to day things you actually need and then having an admin account you switch to for specific tasks that need it, is a good idea. However, it sounds like you don’t have an admin account to log into so I’m assuming someone else set the site up for you and did give you another login?

Yeah, that’s correct. When we first started using the website, somebody else was setting everything up and running it, but then I became in charge of it and was supposed to have full access to everything. I’m listed as an “Admin” on the site, but I’m guessing I have limited capabilities for some reason.

If I add “Events Administrator” as a role to my account would that help any?

As in using multiple roles?

The Events Administrator role is from EE itself and is essentially a role used to allow users to manage events without full access to your site.

The capability checks within EE are based on you using an admin account for sertings, so you’ll need a user account that has the manage_options cap rather than the Events Administrator role.
