Since my event registration opened two months ago I’ve been periodically exporting the registrants successfully to a CSV. However, as the list grew, it became a slower export (understandably). But lately it’s begun to kick back a blank white page (after “connecting” for minutes). At times I’ve had to try over and over again before successfully downloading the file. After maybe 10 tries yesterday I was able to do it, but now I have a few dozen more registrants and simply can’t export no matter how many times I try.

I know someone had posted about this similar problem a while back, but I can’t seem to find that post anymore (so, sorry about the double post). However, I remember that his had something like 2,800 registrants, each with 20 questions. I also have somewhere around 15-20 questions, but only 200 registrants. I’ve tried on multiple browsers in multiple places (home, work) with no success.

Using EE 4.3 with the latest version of WP.

Hi Jon,

I think the way forward for you will be to contact your host and ask about upgrading the server to have more memory capacity.

I have upgraded to a VPS and will migrate tonight. I’ll see if this problem persists tomorrow morning.

Please let us know how you get on with this.

After the migration I was able to run the report successfully. Though I’m not sure asking everyone to upgrade their server is a proper solution. I would understand if I had 3,000 registrations and simply not enough memory, but 200 should be handled by even the smallest websites, no?

Hi Jon,

Did you try upping the WP_memory_limit before upgrading to a VPS?

The issue with shared servers is that the memory_limit is often set really low when initially created. Its common for us to see shared servers with a 32MB memory limit, which is fine for general/lite use, but as you ask more of the server it will use more memory so it will need to be increased. (If the host actually allows this)

Changing to a VPS may not have been necessary and simply upping the memory limit on the shared server may have allowed the CSV to be created consistently, however ultimately the VPS perform better in the long run.

Not sure how to up WP_memory_limit so I can’t say that I tried that. However, my site had been slow regardless of the EE plugin. It needed an upgrade, and the cost increase was marginal. So yes, upgrading to VPS was overkill if we’re just talking about solving for the CSV export, and I had other upgrade options available that were still on a shared server.
