I created 2 venues so far for my events. When I try to save the venue, I get the error “WordPress Error” on the page tab, and then “cannot load espresso_venues” on the page. But the venue appears later in the Event Venues list. When I try to edit the venue from the Event Venue list, I also get that error. Furthermore, the venue details are not been shown on my new event page (notice that I have not published my event yet, I’m working in draft mode and Maintenance Mode is off).

I have read similar posts and on one of them Lorenzo suggested to deactivate all plugins and try them one by one… I’m afraid I cannot do that as I don’t know how my website will behave afterwards and also, the theme I’m using is also a plugin. I cannot deactivate my entire live website to test this problem in that way.

Any suggestions how to fix this? I’m attaching two images: what the Event Venue Manager shows and the error screen.

Hi there,

This is a known issue with the Log Emails plugin:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/known-third-party-plugin-theme-conflicts/#log_emails

If you do not have the Log Emails plugin activated on your website, then it may be another WP plugin causing the same symptom. In which case it may be advantageous to transfer the site to a staging server so you can troubleshoot there.

Is there a way to find out which plugin is interfering without using a staging server, like a debug tool or logger?

There would have to be a condition where there’s an error that gets logged. So if you activate WordPress WP_DEBUG mode, you can log errors:

https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress#Example_wp-config.php_for_Debugging

Then you FTP into the wp-content folder and view the debug.log file. It’s not guaranteed that what’s causing the venues to not load will also throw an error, but you can check for errors in the log.

I do not have Log Emails plugin. And I don’t have a staging server to try out your suggested method. I installed Query Monitor but the detailed is overwhelming for me and most of it I don’t understand it – I’m not a programmer, a user. So what other way do I have to solve this issue? I have searched some posts in the forum and this same problem goes back to 2012 in one way or another… in 5 years, there’s still not a solution to this?

There is a solution to this. You find the plugin that’s causing the error by systemically deactivating the other plugins installed on the site. Once that plugin is identified, the plugin can be reviewed to see how it is breaking things, and a fix for that plugin can be recommended. The problem is not caused by Event Espresso, it’s caused by another plugin disrupting things.
