We’ve seen this caused by incorrect formatting in the translation files and also plugin conflicts, the easiest to start troubleshooting with is translations.
Note we recommend create a database backup before de-activating plugins, or better yet test this on a development copy of the site so it is out of view of your visitors.
You can switch themes without effecting your users using the Theme Test Drive plugin.
