I want to create an excel sheet with registrations. However, when I try to export the registrations to a CSV file, I get a webpage with the content. This seems not unlike this post I found: When a I save the content of that web page to a file, I get a format that I cannot manage to import decently in Excel. Content of one registration is spread out over several rows, no matter what setting of delimiters I try. Perhaps some carriage returns are introduced in saving the file? It’s very well possible I miss something. Perhaps a suggestion for the right format to save the file and CSV settings for importing it could already help. |
Hi, is this happening with a specific web browser? If you are not sure, could you test by generating the CSV report using a different web browser? — |

Hi Lorenzo, I tried a few browsers on different computer and yes indeed it seems to depend on the browser. Today I had success with IE 11 and Firefox 37 (both on windows 7). For the last few days I have been struggling on another PC (windows 8) and IE (will check the version). That did not work. What I get now is very well workable. I’ll check and come back to you. |

Actually, having a closer look: also the Internet Explorer 11 results on the windows 7 machine are not correct. So probably the problem is related to Internet Explorer. |
|
Further tests reveal that is even more subtle. I seem to get a different file depending on the route I take (all using Firefox). If I go to “registrations” and then filter out the event, the resulting CSV is more or less OK (but more on that later). If I go the event view and then select the registrants, the resulting CSV is not usable. Basically it sometimes seem to ignore the end of registrant record. Consequently I get a spreadsheet wit 2, 3 or 4 similar blocks as columns next to one another. Also the “correct” CSV file shows some minor formatting errors, also relating to a seemingly random end of a record. So all and all, the end of a registrant record seem to be fuzzy. Another issue with the “correct” CSV is that I do not only get the registrants of the filtered event but ALL registrants. This is not too hard to filter out, but annoying nevertheless Yet another issue is that I do not see the “not completed”/”abandonned” registrations (not sure what the english terminology is, I use the Dutch translations), even if I have approved them. Combining this with the previous issue, tt seems that the filtering applied is unrelated to the registrants that are exported. In summary, I think I see two issues that most likely are unrelated |
Hi, the filters do not apply at this time. For example, if you filter by month while viewing a specific event, then all registrations are exported. We removed failed registrations from the report as those are fields without any contact information such as a name and email. On the computers with Internet Explorer that are showing the report in a browser window, are there any browser add-ons in use? — |

Hi Lorenzo, I did some further experiments and resolved part of the issue. The culprit are not the add-ons in IE but the format in which I save the file. When I save as ‘text’ I get the erroneous results I described. Using “html only” gives correct results. For the second part: OK I understand the filter is not applied to the export. I can live with that and filter later in excel. However, I still miss the “not completed”/”abandonned” registrations (marked with yellow text and icons) in the export. They are very relevant to me as in practice I notice that quite often people do not fully complete the registration, write down the bank details and pay nevertheless. So, after receveiment of payment I approve their registration, despite not completing the full registration process. I also notice that the non-completed registrations ARE forwarded to mailchimp (but of course without all the richness of detail of the EE database). So, there seems to be a bit of a discrepancy. Is there a way to solve this and get ALL the registrants? |
Hi Joost, here are the examples of incomplete registrations: http://cl.ly/image/190v0D3H3947 There isn’t a name or email associated with them so we don’t include them in the registrations CSV report. Are you referring to something else? If so, could you please share a screenshot? No personal information is needed but it would be helpful to see the area for clarification. Thanks — |

Hi Lorenzo, Please have a look at this screenshot: http://www.plukdeliefde.nl/?attachment_id=678 They entered name and mail adres but apparently did not finalize the full registration procedure. I do not know what they have done exactly and when they broke off. In the registration view they are listed as ‘abandonned’ (with yellow cart icon and yellow date. As they paid nevertheless, I have approved their registration. Hence the vertical bar on the left is green. These registrants DO end up in CONTACTS and ARE exported to Mailchimp, which happens already prior to my approval. However they are NOT exported to the CSV file. These are not isolated examples, I have a few more of these registrants. Any idea? Joost |
Hi Joost, Approved registrations with Abandoned transactions were not included within the CSV file until version 4.6.20.P As you are running 4.6.18.P this is why those registrations are not included. Is there any reason you have not updated to the latest version of EE4? |

Hi Tony, Thanks for your feedback. Good to hear the issue. I’m heading towards a major event and wanted to keep the site stable until then. But as I need this feature for the same event I probably need to update nevertheless. I’ll give it a try. Joost |
I understand. With minor version number 4.6.1, 4.6.23 etc we are usually fixing bugs, adding features small features or tweaking feature slightly. We try to keep any modifications within major version numbers 4.4, 4.5, 4.6 Minor update should not cause signifcant problems (if any) although with the many different way in which people use EE its impossible for us to test every possible scenario, which is why we recommend creating a development version of your site (within a sub-domain on the same server for example) so that updates can be tested there. If you do not have a dev copy of the site to work on I would recommend creating one, it allows you to work on issues away from your visitors 🙂 Either way if you are about to update it is always recommends to make at least a Database backup, or a full site backup, just to be safe. |

Hi Tony, After the update the CSV indeed contains all the records. And yes, you are right, by now I should start investing in a dev copy of the site….. Frankly, I keep struggling a bit with getting a readable CSV. I’ve not explored all options but I believe that only saving it as “HTML only” results in a file that I can import within Excel without errors. I may have missed it but I do not recall to have read that instruction somewhere. Perhaps document it somewhere? Joost |
