when I try to add an event i get error 500

Hi there,

If you enable WP_DEBUG on the site does it show any further information?

You should also be able to check the servers error logs to see any errors being thrown.

We don’t really have enough information to be able to help currently, error 500 usually means a fatal error is being thrown, my first guess would be your site is running out of memory, but it could be anything currently.
