I recently installed the latest version of EE4, fresh install. When using PayPal Standard as a payment method, if the user clicks on the ‘Cancel’ link when they get to PayPal they are taken to the Thank-You page and not back to the choice of payment method. Why is this? I also notice when using the PayPal sandbox that a cancel URL is not being passed to PayPal.
The original behavior on the initial release of Event Espresso 4 was to send the registrant to the registration cancelled page. However, when this occurs, then all registration information is lost.
We switched to sending them to the thank you page. When they arrive there, then they have the chance to click on the payment methods link and try again with another payment method.
Thanks, I see that’s an improvement on the original behavior, but I would suggest that this is still very confusing to a user. Clicking cancel in PayPal and then seeing ‘Thank-You for registering’ is confusing, to say the least.
I notice that when PayPal sends a ‘declined’ IPN notification, and then the user returns to the Return-URL (I simulated this with the Sandbox so not sure if it’s the normal flow), the user is instead presented with a message on the payment method page explaining the order was declined. Could a similar flow not be used for cancellations?
I think the current flow is a serious flaw that needs to be addressed.
Hi, I’ll start a discussion about this to see if we can handle it differently.
Thanks
