Hi,
I am referring to the tick box that appears when you go to Apply Payment for a transaction. Can this be ticked by default, or is there a reason why that would not be a good idea?
Thank you.
Kitka

Hi Kitka,

Currently, we don’t have the option to check that checkbox by default so to do so you would need to add some Javascript to the page which automatically checked that checkbox for you.

With regards to if it’s a good idea, it really depends on how you use EE. One of the reasons that we don’t check that checkbox by default is it is easy to trigger messages to send, but you can’t easily (or at all) ‘unsend’ a message if you trigger one by default/mistake (especially if you have EE set to send the emails on the same request).

So let’s say you apply a partial payment to the transaction, meaning the registrations remain as pending payment because monies are still owing, with that checkbox enabled every registrant will receive a pending payment email each time you apply a payment and don’t uncheck it, which generally people don’t want. If you remember to uncheck it each time then all is well, but then why have it enabled by default.

If you almost always exclusively apply full payments and generally want the registration emails to go out every time you apply a payment, it may a good idea for you to have it enabled by default. But again, if you forget to check the box its easy enough to trigger Registration Approved messages after applying the payment.

As a distributed product used for many different use cases, we sum up the pros and cons of default options (such as the above). Something we learned from the feedback from EE3 and early in EE4 is people prefer fewer emails, so generally our defaults try to reduce the number of emails. Whilst it is not always possible with all of the information we need to send the above is an example of selecting a default that reduces the chances of ‘additional’/’duplicate’ emails.
