Our booking system (https://fndponyclub.org.uk/bookings) has ground to something so slow at times it is unusable and we get Out of Resource messages. We are on shared hosting which I realise is not the best but we are constrained by clients finances.
Looking at the Cron jobs in the queue I see over 400 AHEE__EE_Cron_Tasks__expired_transaction_check at approximately 30-50 second intervals.
Is this Cron job likely to be a source of slow website response and what is causing the increasing number of calls detailed above.
The crons could be causing it, but it sounds more like the site is getting hit by bots submitting the ticket selector (which then adds the cron job).
To answer your question, you can delete them, although if there are any registrations making a payment on the site at the time their registration may not update to show as Approved and payment complete. (You can work around that if you do the above when the site is quiet and then monitor the last few registrations made within an hour and check if there payments have been complete).
However, you could also enable reCaptcha on the site within:
Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Reg Form settings -> reCAPTCHA Anti-spam Settings
Set ‘Use reCpatch’ to Yes and you’ll see a link to sign up for a reCaptcha account just below that option (make sure you are signed into the Google account you want linked to the site).
Select v2 Invisible and add your keys to the EE settings.
Enable it on at least the ticket selector then save.
That should help reduce the number of bot submissions.
I would also recommend using a plugin such as Blackhole for Bad Bots:
However, not that it is NOT just an install and go plugin, you need to follow the installation instructions provided by that plugin.
