I need a way to allow users to sign up for classes that are created in a Custom Post Type. I also need to be able to set a limit of students per each class and when the number is reached in registrations close registration for that class. Also once a class has happened I don’t want it to show up as a class you can register for.

Is all of this possible with Event Espresso?

Hi Melinda,

Thank you for considering Event Espresso, I’ll break each of those questions down.

I need a way to allow users to sign up for classes that are created in a Custom Post Type.

Event Espresso events are their own custom post type (espresso_events), so it depends on exactly what you mean, but Yes, EE events are a custom post type within WordPress.

I also need to be able to set a limit of students per each class and when the number is reached in registrations close registration for that class.

You can set limits per datetime and/or per ticket for each event.

Also once a class has happened I don’t want it to show up as a class you can register for.

Once the event datetimes have passed that event is expired, you have the option to display (or not to display) expired events.

Have you tried Test Driving Event Espresso 4?

That will allow you to create events and get a fell for how EE works.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regarding the first part I have already created a custom post type called “Classes” and want to be able to use that if possible with Event Espresso. Is this possible?

One other question. Can all of the above requirements be accomplished with the free version of Event Espresso 4? Event Espresso 4 decaf?

Hi Melinda, Event Espresso will not be able to use an existing custom post type as it will create its own (espresso_events)

However, if you rename the slug for your classes post type, then you can set Event Espresso to use a default slug of classes instead of events.

Thank you, I understand now.

You can not use your own custom post types, but you can change the slug of EE events to ‘classes’ so that EE will load the events at yourdomain.com/classes/

The registration limits are included within decaf and premium, the option to remove expired events from your listings is included within the premium plugin.

Hello again Melinda,

I wanted to let you know that there is an enhancement for this that is now available in the current version of Event Espresso 4.

You no longer need to use the filter that is mentioned in the link below to change the events custom post type slug:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/change-events-cpt-slug/

Instead, you can remove that filter if it is currently in place. Then login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Event Espresso –> Events –> Templates. Then scroll to the Event Listing area and you’ll see an option to specify your slug for the espresso_events custom post type. Here is an example of what it looks like:

Note that the option above is available in the current version of Event Espresso 4. If you are running an older version of Event Espresso 4, then please see the steps below for how to upgrade to the current version.

Steps for upgrading Event Espresso 4

First, please backup your WordPress site. Then upgrade to the latest version of Event Espresso 4.

You can see the changelog for Event Espresso 4 here:
