The calendar on both the staging & production versions of a client’s site stopped working suddenly without any code or configuration change on our behalf. Strangely, staging appears to be working again, but production is still broken. We’ve attempted resetting the license key and it’s synced with the production domain now, but things haven’t started working again.

I’ve tried the usual fixes for client-side issues causing the calendar to break. I’m getting no JS errors whatsoever and no errors in our Apache logs.

Hi Kimberly,

This may be limiting out at the number of database queries. When I check the calendar page that is set for your support license, it says in the source there is 570 queries. Many hosts will limit the number of queries to that range.

If you have a lot of events in the system, the calendar will attempt to pull all of them from the database. If you can lower the amount of open events in the system, the calendar will likely appear again.

This site will have a large amount of recurring events and it appears that those do not show on the calendar unless the calendar is set to show expired events.

Unfortunately, lowering the amount of events isn’t an option. Are there plans for your calendar to be improved so it pages through DB results instead of pulling the entire event list?

Josh, is there a fix available for this query issue?

Hi Kimberly,

There is an open ticket to add a new feature that will add a limit setting in the calendar. I’ll update this post once I see some code get updated in the repository.

Hi Josh,
I think I may be having the same issue. Haven’t changed anything but added additional recurring events to my system and the calendar has stopped appearing. I have tried removing events but the calendar is still not showing up. The calendar will work if I use the shortcode to only display events for a specific category. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

You might try using [ESPRESSO_CALENDAR show_expired=false] for the time being.
