Hi, I was wondering how you go about changing the page that the calendar’s “register now” button is linking to. When you go to http://www.artnook.org/calendar/ and press on “Canvas & Cork: Whimsical Tree” it takes you to a page. I don’t like the design of that page and instead I want the calendar’s button to be linked to a plain page with the “Canvas & Cork: Whimsical Tree” box from http://www.artnook.org/eat-drink-art/. Please help. |

Hi, In EE4, events are what’s called a Custom Post Type. Basically they are very similar to normal posts. As such the design of the “page” the event is on is determined by the theme. You can change the location of where the Registration Page is by adding an URL to “Alternative Registration Page” option in the event editor (screenshot: http://take.ms/zbyuj). However, I don’t think that would be particularly ideal as you would then need to set up the Ticket selector on that page for the event. |
Your right…this option is not ideal for me. So, what is another option? There has to be a way to make the calendar link go to a normal post in which I can design myself. Right? |

Hey there, Have you thought about just using the ticket selector shortcode (copied from the event editor) on a page? You can paste the shortcode on any page and design the layout as you wish. Then you can use that page’s URL in the “Alternate Registration Page” field in the event editor. Then, when someone clicks the “Register Now” link in the calendar, they will be taken to the page that you designed. Does that make sense? |
Hi Jonathan, Yes this makes sense. Although doing this poses new problems. The first problem is that when I do this, the change causes the ticket selector to disappear from each of the boxes on the http://www.artnook.org/eat-drink-art/ page. Which in turn makes my customers go through another step if wanting to register from this “eat. drink. art.” page. I don’t want that. I just want the link in the calendar to link to a new page without changing anything to the way the “eat. drink.art” page functions. The second problem is that in order to make this work the way I am wanting I would have to separate my events, each into their own category but then I don’t know how to show some events on the calendar and leave others off the calendar. |

Hey there, I’m not sure of another option for this. What part of the event registration page do you not like? Maybe we can help from that angle. |
Pretty much everything about it! And I just paid Event Espresso a ton of money to have Lorenzo and his team make custom changes to eliminate the need for the event registration page and instead use the boxes we designed on the eat.drink.art page. I don’t understand…there is no way…not even in custom css to change where specifically the calendar button (and just the calendar button) links to? |
Hi there, CSS is to apply visual changes to the HTML markup that makes up the page, a link would be part of the HTML that make the page so your can’t use CSS to change where that link would go, just how the link itself would look. The best way to do this is to create a template for your theme to output the single-espresso_events pages however you wanted as it is your theme that is styling the the single events, like this – http://www.artnook.org/events/brews-brushes-2/ Event Espresso uses the theme styling for single posts and adds the event details to the_content() The other option is using the alternative registration page setting to link to a custom page that you have created (as you have tried) although this is intended for an external registration page in which you are not taking registrations for the event on your site but want user to find it, click on it and be taken to the site that is. This is why the ticket selector no longer displays on the event listing when using this, as users aren’t expected to register there. |

Hi Tony, HELP! The pages that were previously showing my event espresso events are all of a sudden saying “Maintenance Mode Event Registration has been temporarily closed while system maintenance is being performed. We’re sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused. Please try back again later.” What is that about? I updated today…is the update causing this? I cannot even address the things you have suggested in your previous post until this is fixed. |
You need to run the migrations within Event Espresso. Log into your Dashboard, find the Event Espresso menu and within there you will find the Maintenance sub-menu. Within there you can run the migrations to update the data to the latest database schema. Just follow the on screen instructions to run the migrations. Before running any updates it is recommended to create at lease a database backup, just to be safe. This is not just with Event Espresso but any plugins, themes or WordPress itself. There are many plugins to help do this, here is one I use: |

Thanks. Migrations done. Now back to the issues at hand: Since using the alternative registration page setting to link to a custom page did not work. It seems as though the only other option is “to create a template for your theme to output the single-espresso_events pages.” I am wanting my single espresso events pages to look like this http://www.artnook.org/hello/ however each with the pertinent information from the event. How do I go about doing that? |
To create custom theme templates you will need the help of a developer as this is not something support can provide. A developer can use the mock up from the output here: To create a template file that will apply the same design to all Event Espresso single events. Do you have a developer that usually works on your site? If not you may one to contact one of the developers listed here: |

Tony, Lorenzo was working on customizing my website last. He did all the custom coding to create the boxes I now desire on the single espresso events pages. I am starting to get a little annoyed as I am feeling like he is the one that knows my webpage intimately and he also should be able (I think) to easily copy the code making this a custom theme template. I do not wish to have another designer go in, have to figure out everything Lorenzo has done, have to figure out Event Espresso, and then create the look I am wanting from scratch when Lorenzo has already written the code. Do I need to buy another support token for Lorenzo to work on this? Or are you telling me something entirely different? |
Previously Lorenzo modified the templates EE uses the build the Event Listings using the ESPRESSO_EVENTS shortcodes, this is different from creating a full custom single post template for your theme. Custom theme development is not something support will usually work on, however I spoke with Lorenzo and if you’d like to purchase another support token he will look into this further. You can purchase support tokens here: https://eventespresso.com/product/premium-support-token/ Please provide a detailed description of how you would like the template to work. |
I have purchased a token and will wait to hear from Lorenzo. Thank you for all the work you have done on this. |
Hi Cindra, I replied to your support token request. Go ahead and reply there to provide information on your project. Thanks — |
